QUOTE(jamesteoh8177 @ May 18 2015, 02:12 PM) What can possibly happen that you are so worried about?Looks to me your son is clear on what he wants, the only one not clear seems to be you. It is never too young to get started. Just get him a mini 4 string ukelele. This post has been edited by rogerv2: May 18 2015, 04:24 PM |

Let him learn ukulele first la.
Guitar strings very hard, while ukulele is softer and less strings. Not to mention smaller and cheaper. Anyway congrats on being a kiasu parent lol. |

Then again, I am here not to judge whatever ''KIA' U mayb... that's ur prerogative...u will do what is best for ur child... For me, I only want my child to enjoy whatever he likes at his age... at the age of 3, my child should be enjoying his life to fullest WITHOUT any worries or pressure from anybody... so, if my child can learn to play guitar or ukulele at the age of 3, by all means I will let him learn. |

Age 3 is definitely not a suitable age for guitar. Just go for ukulele. Even piano might be a better choice. Just forget about the guitar. |

Guitar at 3 years old, probably not, 95% of the chords are probably not reachable for their fingers and they can't press the strings hard enough to the bar.
I would recommend ukulele. Even that I think minimum would be 5. This post has been edited by Drian: May 20 2015, 10:04 AM |

Why being troubled whether a 3yr old suitable to play guitar. Just dropby any centre that teach guitar lesson and see who will accept age 3 students. From there you will know whether the 3yr old can start the lesson now or not.

If the parents insist that they want that for their child and willing to pay why not, the teacher can spend the next 1 year teaching him how to hold the guitar only, that is if he can even support the weight of the guitar. |

For a start, I dun play any musical instrument at all...but my son is very interested in guitar. If he sees anybody holding guitar in church,he will go to them and tell them to play for him...I would recommend ukulele. Even that I think minimum would be 5. If ukelele fits him well, then by all means let him learn la, IF my son wants to learn ukelele... This post has been edited by jamesteoh8177: May 20 2015, 12:07 PM |

Your son is just 3 yrs old and at this age, anything can looks easily excite him.
Maybe you learn ukelele yourself and meanwhile teach him what you have learn. If he really still keep to this "interest" for the next 2 years, then you can start signing him up for lesson. |

I used to join band during study time, to me, I won't let my kid learn the instrument at too early age like 2-3 year old. Because most instrument are designed for adult body size, not for kid body size.
If really wish to expose it to kid at young age, I would propose percussion instrument. |

As for myself learning ukulele... hmmm... sounds like a good idea but I am like having two left hands when it comes to musical instruments... Well... time to try, I guess... Thanks a lot for the pointer... |

Well... time to try, I guess... Thanks a lot for the pointer... IF both also duwan to play then can forget it. He is only 3 years old afterall. Maybe your son is future bright musician or it can be sports too. I personally think it is too early for you to make choice for your sons. Let him choose, not you. |

At 3 years old his attention span and concentration is definitely not matured yet. What he likes now may not be what he likes later when he finds out that playing an instrument requires a lot of practice time.
