QUOTE(babyblue10 @ Jul 6 2008, 08:22 PM) I totally disagree that the food at sg is better than msia. For your info, some of those food which is consider nice is actually cook by msia people itself. I will say half half. If you compare normal hawker food, I think msia food better. Of course there is still some nice hawker food around singapore but you really need to scout it out. Eg is the geylang lorong 27a or 29 hokkien prawn mee and satay(chicken, pork, lamb), its really nice, Katong laksa near holland village, fried kuey teow near golden mile bugis, chicken rice near chinatown and some others also good. For restaurant food, I will give a thumb to singapore food. This might be due to power of currency, the cost is less thus with same amount of money( dollar to dollar) we can enjoy some better food. Eg baby back rib from tony roma(msia no pork rib), kuriya japanese buffet. Korean bbq i still prefer daore in msia. haven't find really good worth money in singapore. A brazilian buffet near bukit timah ( forget name, need booking even weekday). This post has been edited by jimmy79: Jul 6 2008, 10:14 PM |

I won't say whose better... however, there are indeed some food better and vice versa too.... Like I like Penang wanton noodle (with dark sauce), there are few stalls selling Pontian wanton noodle in SG too, just eat some for dinner, I like it. Don't forget as much as some one said, some food are cooked by Malaysian. If I were you, I would rather not made that claim. There are many food not cook by Singaporeans, neither Malaysians... In fact, Chinese nationals are sellling local food now if you really wonder around. Who taught them? Just ask yourself that simple question. I found one such stall in Tampines block 800+, a place very popular on weekends. A place I would avoid in the except because I work around there during the day. Sometimes, we are bias with out taste bud, that's what I experience too, therefore, I would want to comment much about whose better of good in that respect.
Hawker food, I won't comments much, but when it comes to restaurants and I would say especially hotel food, SG is much better... Whenever I travel round and staying in hotel around KL.... I still can't get use to the taste... Unlike when I go on to the street in KL and eat hawker food. I have no problem at all. In fact, I would much prefer KL hawker food than SG. But when it comes to hotel...its just so-so... I given a choice, I would avoid and eat on the road side. One thing for sure, depends on where you are at, the price and quality of the food presented do make lots of difference. In that respect, I think SG has more to offer... but don't get me wrong, I didn't imply that Malaysia has none. Of course, maybe I have not come across any nice ones... but that's my opinion. That's also why I am looking out for good food in this blog There are food that you can't really compare with especially when it does not exist in either of the country. each has its own taste and wonder.. just like at any other places and country too. |

QUOTE(XfX @ Jul 7 2008, 12:00 AM) Walou this thread seems like kopitiam style thread, all discussing good food instead of jobs, working experience and culture in Singapore... It's entirely relevant I reckon. Working in Sg means a complete change of lifestyle, and food plays a big part of that lifestyle.Taking on a job in a foreign land entails a lot of changes, and it's only logical that this thread discusses those changes, whatever they may be, including food. QUOTE(plplpl @ Jul 7 2008, 07:53 PM) maybe just enough if u don have other commitments such as sending money back home....if u spend wisely...should be able to save few hundred every month.... agree, if you spend wisely and not lavious on things, can still survive and save a bit... as I mentioned before, many of you guys here are more fortunate because you make more than others... there are many malaysians shop assistant around each earning below 1K or so-so, still can save a little bit. Guess they are those who are not so fortunate as many of you, but I was told, its far better than their home town where nothing much they can save staying and working back there. So.. not everyone would agree on 1.5K not enough. As a Singaporean, I do understand the cost of living you guys have to pay. However, apart from housing issue, even I myself, I can survive on that amount being alone if not for my family.... so no worries though. Of course, I am not trying to raise your hope of this "Wonderland" in SG, giving uyou false impression, but you also ought to be realistic with your own expectation....This post has been edited by bbmars: Jul 7 2008, 11:34 PM |

I always believe if u can earn and survive with RM1,500 in KL, you are sure that you can survive in SG with S$1,500 bcos things here are more cheaper than in KL. For rent, u need to pay RM300-400 for a room, but in SG, the price is around this price also... Good luckany advise ? thank |

QUOTE(peng123 @ Jul 7 2008, 06:32 PM) may i know is it enough to survive if i earned S$1500 in singapore as account assistant ? Depends on what your standards of survival are. For me, I can't live with strangers and I can't live without aircond. So my rental + utilities is already $1500. So for me, cannot survive. |

My employer had been offering me a high pay, supplied me a car and bear the rental of a luxury condominium which is located at Bugis Junction. I still chose to come back malaysia. A high quality living doesn't means a better life. Lot of malaysians thinking about they can earn a lot of money in singapore and own their business in malaysia once they earn enought of singapore dollars.
Think about this, how many years are you going to spend in singapore? You already lost all the network & information in malaysia market when the years you spent in singapore. So small place , not everyone can owned a car , time is being controlled by public transport, no mamak, strictly public rules, lifeless creature. I am really wondering any malaysian will love to stay in this bored place. I still prefer to my country , malaysia. |

come on la, not all malaysian have the same habit like you.
not everyone in malaysia want to own a car, and not all of us like to go to mamak stall. strict public rules?? lol this sounds childish to me, that means you like malaysia because you can break rule easily?? i rather got my time being controlled by public transport than controlled by crazy traffic jam in KL/Penang. it's just for you, don't generalize everyone like they have the same thinking as you. |

For someone who is looking for a part-time degree to pursue, this does not resonate with Singapore's workplace reality (click on link below as per your earlier post). http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=377516&hl= Also, such benefits are offered only to expatriates who make up part of the top corporate management in Singapore (the regional directors, the CXOs, etc). |
