Hi guys, I'm having a bit of a dilemma here. I applied for Yayasan Sime Darby's scholarship with the chance to further to UK, back in April. Only recently did they decide to have their phone interview and I was called just now. Not my intention to brag here, but the interviewer said she will highly recommend me for the next round. I do not know when will they release the final results of the scholarship.

My dilemma now is, I have to choose between accepting the KPM Bursary (10A+) and study in Sunway College, or wait for the possible chance to get Yayasan Sime Darby's scholarship. I'm worried that the seats for A-level at Sunway will be fully occupied soon. Their intake is in July and the deadline of registration with the KPM Bursary is by the end of June. There's also the recent change of the JPA's PCPU scholarship rules for bursary graduates.

I would like to know your opinions on my situation. I would be very thankful as well if any past recipients of the Yayasan Sime Darby scholarship can give me information (like what expenses will they cover, how many went to UK with the scholarship, bond duration, etc etc) and also tips for further rounds. Fellow applicants can also discuss here smile.gif

I don't know much about both scholarships but I suppose there's a job guarantee for YSD scholarship right ?

Hope is what we can do. There should be a bond with Sime Darby after graduation.

Just my humble opinion. If you are really interested in the course for YSD scholarship , then just go ahead for the YSD scholarship if you would like to work for the company.Read the rules for contract for the bursary program ( if there's any ) like how much you have to pay if you will not opt for bursary at last. If it's reasonable, then go for bursary first . Since YSD scholarship will send their scholars to KYUEM , which I know the registration date is 28th July , I think the results will be announced quite late...

No contract or T&C for bursary, but the main concern for bursary recipients now is the updated ruling for JPA's sponsorship in the future which is their Program Cemerlang Pra-Universiti. In short, they are opening the doors to every student, seats are limited, and sponsorship is no longer guaranteed for bursary recipients.

To me, YSD offers a sort of security for degree sponsorship. It still depends whether they have a predetermined range of UK universities to send their scholarship recipients. Finally, securing YSD's scholarship is still not guaranteed as I've yet to go for their further assessments.

Thank you for your humble opinion smile.gif

Ok, that's what I'm gonna do but I still have to finalize with KPM by a certain date. I'm worried that Sime Darby might announce their results after that date, which will be too late.

Well, what can I say. For some, they study for a duration and the interest slowly but surely builds up. For others, they flunk it outright because they don't have the passion for it. Are you really dependent on this engineering scholarship? Also, since you said Medicine, are you aware of the challenges of pursuing Medicine course nowadays (limited scholarship, overflow of medical graduates etc etc)?

Well, better ask Seniors/Malay friends who have gotten a spot in Matrix.
Because all MARA/SBP students are self studied student, they either live or die in their academic High School years.

I'm currently doing Form 6 right now, those people kept entering and leaving my school as they want.
Especially those Science Stream MARA/SBP students.

But be prepared for the quality of education, because Pre-U Educations is pretty much SELF STUDY.
You can't be reliant on your lecturer/teachers to spoon fed you anymore.

Apply to overseas and private universities as usual, also another round of scholarship applications for me, especially for JPA's scholarship if I go with KPM Bursary.

I mean, do you desperately need the financial support offered by this scholarship?

At least if you don't get YSD, you have KPM to fall back on. Otherwise, good for you because you still can bail out on KPM and opt for YSD.

I just received their email and I have been shortlisted for their second assessment which is an hour-long Online Test held at Sime Darby Plantation Tower on 9th of June. Very far for me as I don't have car access.
Problem here is, the results of the 2nd assessment will be announced on... 4th of July sweat.gif which is past my KPM Bursary deadline. Their final results will probably be announced much later. Looks like I HAVE to confirm with KPM and accept their offer, or else I'll be taking a huge gamble.
Haiz, Sime Darby just had to announce so late. Other scholarships like PETRONAS already announced their results a few days ago. If I somehow manage to land this offer in around mid July, I still have to burn my RM1000 deposit which I paid at Sunway sweat.gif My financial status is rocky to be honest.

Hello,

At the end, which scholarship did you go for? Now, looking back after a year, are you happy with the decision that you have made? Would you have done differently if given another chance?

I am a 2015 SPM leaver. I too got the JPA bursary. I too applied for YSD. But so far no news from SD yet.

Sup. YSD is definitely the better choice. Full scholarship to study abroad and an amazing Pre-U experience in KYUEM, what more can I wish for? YSD's results are the latest to be released compared with other sponsors. FYI, I studied for a short while in Sunway under KPM Bursary before I moved (had to call KPM, talk and stuff).

Which university will be studying after pre u? What course will you be taking?
Since you have successfully secured the YSD scholarship, can you share your experience going thru the assessment/interview, and what are do's and don't?
Thank you so much

I'd rather not reveal the list of universities that I can apply to. Suffice it to say that the list is good enough if you work hard towards obtaining their offers. I will be doing Mechanical Engineering.
Last time around, there were 3 stages. An interview through the phone, assessment in their office in Ara Damansara, and the final interview/assessment. For the final stage, they gave me approx. 30 mins to prepare for a solo presentation which you will have to do in front of 3 senior officers. Once the presentation is wrapped up, you will be interviewed by all 3 of them for a duration which I can't remember.
