Hello all. I am a proud owner of AW17 R2 still a newbie I might say. So stupid question is, should I remove the battery from the laptop? Is the battery will "kong" if I don't remove it while using the laptop. Some say yes and some say no. So I want to try asking the sifu2 here that have vast experience on using this laptop. Thanks

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 11 2015, 12:25 AM) congratulations on your 17 r2. Thank you so much for the explanation. It really helps me figure out the option in the battery icon at the tray. Never clicked that before since I thought that every laptop will give the same option.about the battery, the answer is no, you don't need to remove the battery from the laptop, even if the laptop is connected to the adapter all the times (to me it's a good protection to power loss). since a few years ago, laptops already have a smart mechanism that prevents battery from recharging too frequently. when it's still above certain limit (i think it's about 90% or more) it will not charge. the charging only gets triggered when the battery is below that threshold.. furthermore, if you right-click on the power icon at the notification area, dell has a battery protection option that you can set up to help reducing recharging. it will cut off the power source, drain the battery, then to let it charge once in a while. my m17x r4 is always connected to power adapter with battery installed. even after 3 years, my r4's battery wear level is still minimal. however just bear in mind that battery is still wearable. it will wear more if you're on battery power most of the times. |

Hello, anyone have issues on the speaker? Mine seems blown on the left one. There are some annoying noise I could hear from the left side of the speaker.

QUOTE(e_mc_square @ Nov 3 2015, 11:30 PM) Just set the speaker to the max and test it with one side of the speaker each time by playing some rock/hip hop music. I saw the old M15x got speaker blown up before. But that is the only one. I've tried this method, both side of speakers sounded different. I could hear a little static on my left speaker and more crisp sound on the right speaker. Better call Dell then.Sometime might not due to speaker, might have something is inside the speaker like bug that will create vibration with the speaker, but Alienware speaker design usually hv very small opening, is very likely the speaker is blown up. |

QUOTE(horns @ Nov 4 2015, 08:31 AM) try e_mc_square's method first, as it's physical, not software-related. if it had issues, call dell and wait for replacement. I have this kind of bad luck when I buy things. Especially the expensive one, people did ask me why I buy expensive things. So here is one of the reason, out of nowhere things broken down on me. I don't even know what did I do wrong.until today my old m17x r4s' speakers are still good. (maybe because i never go above 40 on sound volume) i have 2 more spare speakers in case they break down. |

QUOTE(horns @ Nov 13 2015, 10:54 AM) afaik, no, it's not common. my aw18 r1 has just been upgraded to w10 fall update (build 10586.3) via windows updates without glitches. Thanks for the prompt reply. I really appreciate it. I've done some research. Some people did say that the AW17 don't have enough power from the 180W power brick thats why the laptop start to acting like that. Then dell give them a replacement of 240W power supply. I wonder if Malaysia's Dell will do the same. if the weird stuff persists, you can revert to the previous one. alternatively, maybe a system/factory reset could help also (a clean install is even better). i know this seems like a lazy answer. however i have done that to all my machines (clean installs) before i use them, and i never had any funny problems before. since w7, it's better to create system images from time to time. in cases like yours, a system restore will save you a lot of time to crack your head trying to figure out the causes to your issues. Been contacting Dell for some time already but it seems that they only reply one email per day. Sometimes 3 days (working hours ofc). Again thanks for your opinion. |

QUOTE(horns @ Nov 14 2015, 10:06 AM) don't mention it. Thanks you so much for the reply. I will take look on this matter. I've sort things out already and the dell service person already come to my home and change the speaker and the hard disk. But a new trouble come to me, like the back panel on the gun metal section got a hairline scratch by the dell service person and right now the alienware logo at the monitor doesnt light up. if it's about replacing the ac power adapter to a 240w, then it's much easier. besides the official replacement from dell that i think it will take time to resolve, you can get it online. from the information posted in dell website for 240w adapter: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...7&mfgpid=242558 http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...3&mfgpid=242558 the manufacturer part number for the 240w is 6RTJT. when you check adapter models that it replaces (the second link), you will see FWCRC / 6RTJT / J211H / Y044M / 330-4128 / 330-4342 / 330-7843 / 331-3179. in short if you get any one of the adapters, it will work for your laptop. you can get one from dell directly, or, here are what i found at lelong: http://www.lelong.com.my/dell-pa-9e-240-wa...7-01-Sale-I.htm http://www.lelong.com.my/brand-dell-alienw...7-01-Sale-I.htm you can also do some leg work yourself to find out options at other places. good luck. Ive been trying to get my machine setup to look like when it comes from the factory. Like the Alienware logo in the PC info. Do you know how to deal with that? Thank you This post has been edited by ZainRain: Dec 5 2015, 07:38 PM |

Hi sifu of Alienware, I have a question here, I just noticed that my battery never charged until it is full. I only stuck at 87% of battery available. I was wondering why. When I press the button to charge my battery until 100% it still only charge until 87%. Is there anything wrong with the machine. Once it reached 87%, I scroll over to the battery icon and it says (plugged in, not charging). I hope someone can help me with this matter. It has been very frustrating.

QUOTE(mansooriqbal @ May 12 2016, 04:23 AM) Thanks for the reply. What about the warranty? Can I claim the warranty if the battery died again? I used to buy keyboards from Taobao during the time when there were only limited supply of mechanical keyboard in Malaysia. Got the faulty one after a week of usage. I wonder whether if I buy from Taobao, will they charge me the tax for the item. |
