Hi guys,

just recently got an Alienware 15 R2 with stock configuration on the storage (which is a 1TB HDD).

Since I have a M.2 SSD already, I thought I could upgrade the storage on my own until I opened up the undertray and found out that Dell didn't include the screws to secure the SSD to the slots.

Upon further investigation, I found out that the screw size is not the same size as the others, in fact its much smaller.

As of right now, I'm still waiting for the reply from Dell support.

Update#1: Just remembered that I had a spare laptop and salvaged some M2 X 3 mm screws for installing the M.2 SSD on the A15 R2. Popped in the SSD and put back everything in order, power on and no display whatsover. Removed the SSD and power back on again however shows display and able to boot into windows.

Update#2: Tried putting the SSD into the 2nd SSD Slot but sadly the same result. Now I am running on the stock HDD

Hmmmm sweat.gif

did you update the bios? the replacement of m.2 ssd should be easy. both pcie and sata3 m.2 ssd will work.

Have not updated the bios. Straight off factory setting

Is a bios update required?

I'm not sure what your 'bad' means

for me, it's not as bright as I thought. Colour accuracy and viewing angle is good though.

not sure about this. it wouldn't hurt to try it out if you're out of options.

updated the bios but I'm still getting the same results.

put up a post on Dell's forum and it seems that I'm not the only one facing the same issue

Oh that. Try disable secureboot and enable csm then reinstall os?

edit: note that this is a test to see if it can be used with this mode; not guaranteed to work.

from a brief search i found some info about compatible options at ramcity, https://www.ramcity.com.au/blog/m.2-ngff-ss...ship_country=US

at that page press ctrl+f and search alienware. from the descriptions, hyperx predator should work too.

Alright thanks

Will update
