Non-aircond vs aircond

i7-7700K undervolt 80/70
GTX 1060 75/70

Probably the 1060 doesn't clock as high but it didn't go into crazy temperature or shutdown. I probably can repaste and get better temperature but doen't feel the need to.
*
Hi bro, may I know your undervolt value ? I try -0.185v, temperature around 82c at 100% max load and idle about 62c. Max core frequency 3.88Ghz.

I only undervolt -0.12v. Are you testing in aircond room? That idle should be with the fan off.
*
Nope, non aircond room. I think -0.175 may be not stable. It will hang when I shutdown laptop.

I think my unit got problem. I just play a low requirement RPG game and CPU average temperature hit 96c within 10 minutes game play. I already reported to DELL & wait for reply.

Now I just pack my AW inside the beg and wait for Dell support. I continue use my 5 years old Fujitsu Lifebook, very nice machine. Used more then 5 years without any issue, now battery still can stay for 2-3 hour. Sadly Fujitsu no more supply in Malaysia.

Ok, Dell reply me already. They suspect that issue is caused due to insufficient or incorrectly applied thermal paste or defective heatsink, like what you mention in previous reply ... They will arrange technician on site to fix this problem. Hopefully everything will be alright after replace those parts.

Anyway, I like my AW15, everything so nice, solid build, beautiful display (my setup is IPS with G-Sync) and excellent customer support rclxms.gif (they reply my email at 9pm).

Congratulation for your new purchase rclxms.gif . FYI, if you want to upgrade PCIe SSD, AW15 already provides screw at the slot of SSD. So you does not need to purchase screw. thumbup.gif

Might be a good time to get thermal grizzly kryonaut since it's going to be re-pasted. I'd ask the technician to help apply brows.gif

Good to know SSD screws are present.
My DELL XPS desktops didn't include screws for SSD, scavenged dodgy screw from my toolbox  doh.gif
*
I don't think able to get thermal grizzly kryonaut before Dell technician coming sweat.gif . Raya holiday coming, courier service cut off for new delivery doh.gif . I just check my local computer shop, they just sell cooler master thermal paste. sweat.gif

Now I only know can get discount from Dell sales rep. Next time got new purchase should check with them first hmm.gif

That processor is not worth the premium price IMO if it's just for gaming. Invested in the 120hz G-synz screen instead.
Another lemon unit. Mine hit a high 86 degrees playing Witcher 3 on high settings. Acceptable but I'm probably gonna repaste it like everyone else. A colleague repasted his AW 17 using Kryonaut and he's looking at 70-80 degrees with undervolting as well. I'm just afraid of opening it and fucking up the Killer wireless card.

I have a 6 year old Toshiba laptop as well and it's still holding very strong without any issue at all. A shame the Japanese manufacturers are not investing in gaming laptops. I reckon they will do a much better job than their Chinese and American counterparts.
*
Yeah ... I just read service manual, repasted not a easy job, need open a lot parts shakehead.gif

Ok, after Dell technician repasted & exchange Heat sink with fan assembly. My laptop back to normal, average temperature around 80c while playing normal game. Idle about 45-50c. But re-pasted thermal really difficult job, experience Dell technician also need about 1hour to do it sweat.gif . I saw him almost remove every parts then only able to re-pasted thermal, and have to take care a lot of small parts & screw. On that time, one screw was missing, luckily he got bring extra.

Dell technician quite nice, he offer me either got better quality thermal paste & he can help me to re-pasted. He also advice me, if overheat still happen after re-pasted, complaint to Dell & asking for 1 to 1 exchange.

note: Dell using Shin-Etsu Microsi Thermal paste.

GE n GP...  beat ROG lo.. n illegear raven if u repaste thermal compound...in cooling.. (er... mayb close eye oso beat ROG... not sure.. bout tat yet.. )

let me guess the technician name.. ahmad, or taufik... this 2 love to talk kok 1... hehe

hahaha biggrin.gif ... he cari makan only lah, don't be serious lah, hahaha laugh.gif laugh.gif

Actually, I not familiar with internal design of those machines, the reason I choose AW because of it solid build body tongue.gif , like a muscle man laugh.gif laugh.gif .

sound like loose connection, better ask technician to check it out.
*
I also thinking is connection problem, I just did a simple troubleshooting follow the instruction from service manual. According service manual, there are just 2 cables connect to display screen, 1 was connect with HDMI port, another 1 was connect to motherboard call "logo-board cable", I just disconnect & connect back "logo-board cable" nicely and try again. First few days looks good, but after that, problem appear again rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Try to communicate with Dell customer support, they just asking me to upgrade driver doh.gif and they said that may be application or game setting problem doh.gif rclxub.gif . This problem just appear randomly, I don't know how to show them rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

looking your post makes me wondering the build quality Alienware nowadays. I guess rumors about worst QC for Dell is quite true.
*
Yeah, good product design but bad QC. Must extend warranty if buying Dell, since it may have many problem. Not only Alienware, my friend's budget Dell Inpirion laptop also got motherboard problem within 2 years. doh.gif

restart then f12
run epsa test

Run epsa test many time except 4hour+ memory test. But no problem found during epsa test rclxub.gif rclxub.gif . I think this case quite hard to troubleshoot, because it appear randomly, maybe 1 time per day or maybe 1 time in few day. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

or should I continue use this laptop until this problem appear frequently then only complaint to Dell again.

Sure happy to answer  thumbsup.gif

1. What Memory RAM u are using ? Thinking to upgrade memory too ...

Out of the box my laptop came with SK Hynix 8GB DDR4 stick.
Bought matching exact RAM model for dual channel.

HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH
https://www.skhynix.com/products.view.do?vseq=2066&cseq=75

Dell might install other brand memory, check what's installed in your machine before buying.

[attachmentid=9939172]

2. How do u transfer Windows to SSD ? Clean Windows install, Use Windows Recovery or use EaseUS to transfer ?

Cloned HDD to SSD using Acronis direct 1 to 1 copy.

My method is kinda long winded tongue.gif

1) removed original HDD
2) swapped in temp HDD - Windows 10 and Acronis pre-installed.
3) Installed NVME SSD
4) Installed original HDD in external USB case.
5) Boot the machine
6) Clone original HDD to NVME SSD
7) Format original HDD and swapped temp HDD
8) Restart laptop booted straight to NVME (didn't change anything in BIOS)

There's better ways to do this I just didn't bother  sweat.gif
*
Thanks bro. thumbup.gif

My memory RAM is Samsung M471A1K43BB1-CRC, will looking for it.
Anyway, after you clone your HDD, did you remove EFI and some hidden partition in your original harddisk ?

Nope didn't remove the partitions.

Before deleting hidden partitions recommend to perform a full backup.
Some of partitions are are boot partitions, example deleting EFI will make system non-bootable. Don't delete it  shakehead.gif

Others are factory restore image for windows. Honestly wouldn't bother removing those partitions they're fairly small.

https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-La...ng/td-p/6089563

The new specification for Alienware 15 R4 / 17 R5 is:

CPU peak temperature will be no greater than 100 degree C

CPU average temperature will be equal or less than 95 degree C

Anything under these figures will be normal for the Alienware 15 R4 / 17 R5.
