QUOTE(supersound @ May 23 2015, 02:06 PM) Correct me if Im wrong, but the news said Petronas' profit dropped, meaning that they are making less. That doesn't translate to losing money, right? If the news say that revenue is dropping, then I understand that there is possibility of Petronas losing money. Besides, I think pretty much every O&G companies' profit would drop (not only Petronas) or even incur losses, given the O&G climate nowadays...

QUOTE(Stamp @ May 24 2015, 03:17 PM) I think we should stop discussion on issues not related to CAREERS in OIL & GAS in this thread. Those whose objectives in this thread are to show off their thinking and debate skills and want to win all debates at all costs, rather than posting of topics related to this thread, should continue their tirades in RWI or Kopitiam. I hope you're not referring to me. I just wanted his explanation when he said Petronas losing money Just kidding I totally agree with you. This post has been edited by _azam13: May 25 2015, 03:55 AM

QUOTE(shahrilidzwan @ May 27 2015, 02:12 AM) anyhooo.. why would our NOC hire european? with 0years experience any big project in pursuit? I would think that they have allocation for locals too. If not, I would surely riot. During this downturn, rate of unemployment is rising yet they're giving entry level jobs to foreigners lol. Anyway, I think this is for the second batch. I have some friends in the first batch and one of them said there's only one foreigner in their batch. That being said, I have no idea how the locals are supposed to apply for this. Anyone saw an ad in the papers regarding this?

QUOTE(VeeJay @ May 27 2015, 09:22 AM) Is that link for higher education? Its not for job openings...right? Umm its both. They hire you, but for the first stage they will make you complete Msc first. But along the way, they pay you just like a normal employee. So you get higher 'allowance' than a UTP scholar.

otais sekalian,
i have questions about rotating equipment (roteq la, full name too long) engineer if you dont mind me asking. what are the differences between roteq eng downstream vs upstream, and onshore vs offshore? do they differ greatly? would it be too difficult for downstream roteq eng to adapt to upstream operations if he/she wants to transfer?
your response is greatly appreciated, thank you

my last on-topic questions were never answered (maybe coz nobody knows the answer), so i guess i'll ask another super-on-topic question. anyone knows what petronas group technical solutions do? you know, apart from the on-surface info coming out of google. i only know that they are located in dayabumi.
hopefully this doesnt get lost in the sea of hostile off-topic remarks. this is a bit late but selamat hari raya maaf zahir batin

QUOTE(supersound @ Jul 29 2015, 11:14 AM) You need to join FB and look for Oil&GAS Vacancies group, join them and you will find jobs over there. There's some remarks on Petronas also(not that good as you need to have connection to join Petronas) 2 years back when market are good, as long as you are Malay, you can directly join, but as of today, nope, it is quite hard. If you have some experience, try looking for jobs in Middle East, most ex Petronas employees that worked there won't bother to see Petronas. Yeah already liked those pages, checking them on daily basis. Not many for the inexperienced though. You are right about the connection, as an acquaintance who works in the Petronas Group Technical Solutions (GTS) offered to ask the HR for job openings for me ( I cant ask him abt GTS coz I forgot to take down his number ). So thats why I'm asking here. No guarantee that I will get a job there though

QUOTE(Binyamin @ Sep 5 2015, 10:57 PM) SLB. I was in Singapore for a few years with an American ib (One of those known IB you probably heard about) before I join an American hedge fund but base in their Malaysian branch a few years ago. So I never work for a Malaysian ib. (Now my company plans to close their malaysia branch and merge them with their Singapore branch by the end of this year so I will have to be back there again..) Ib is very hard work and usually people only work until 40 years old but by that time they are multi millionaires and that is in USD not rm. Their commission after every deal with clients is between tens of thousands to tens of millions. I got bored working the dealling desk in Singapore like I got bored doing wireline in SLB my attention span is too short to do the same thing day in day out. Hedge fund (quant fund) seems to jive well with my character so far. Everyday is a different day here. Edit: I use to joke with my ex colleague saying that had I stayed on longer on the dealling desk I would have turn into a rogue trader out of boredom and would have brought down the whole bank like how barings bank was brought down by a trader turned rogue in the 90s. So it was really for a charitable cause that I left. http://www.theguardian.com/business/from-t...1995-20-archiveAny lubang to join ib as a fresh grad? Man, I kinda regret turning down KWAP's offer to become their investment analyst. The pay was quite good too. I just felt like it was a huge risk that time because they were heavily linked to the 1MDB scandal :/

Petronas finally e-mailed me saying they are gonna offer me a position (after saying that I passed the SI, back in January). Too bad I have started working in another company, doing investment analysis (my background is mech eng). Seems like my rezeki lies elsewhere. It was good while it lasted, but I think I'm gonna stop reading this thread now. Might come back if I have to research O&G companies I wish you all the best in your career, guys. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

QUOTE(ZintanthraX @ Oct 29 2015, 04:23 AM) i am close to 5 months now after SI. probably we're in the same boat lol. i've already stopped calling them to follow up, as i noticed that the answer is the same every single time i called them. QUOTE(kamalz90 @ Oct 29 2015, 01:12 AM) So you waited 10 months? Wow, so you follow up with HR like how frequent? And did they call you about the offer, or just email you about it? Not really frequent. I emailed them probably once every two weeks. I never called. Then at some point I stopped emailing. Suddenly they emailed me back saying want to hire
