Hi, I'm currently still using my old Acer Core 2 Duo T6600 laptop with 4gb RAM. I use mostly Lightroom & Photoshop. I'm quite ok with the speed when dealing with jpg files, but raw is kinda slow. Will upgrading my laptop to a new one with Intel i5 processor make it very much faster? Or only slightly faster? Don't wanna upgrade my laptop to find it only about the same speed. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

The i5 is only dual core right? Will it be much faster? Unfortunately dun have budget for i7. I don't do video processing, only photo for now. Thanks!

You can't just see solely based on the number of cores. Modern day intel processors are now more powerful and efficient compared to the older Dual Cores, especially your T6600.

yes it will, have you consider desktop as replacement for your laptop, as a real workhorse?

Yes I know the newer processors would be faster but just wondering faster by how much.. If it's just marginally faster, then maybe I'll just keep my old laptop to save money. But if faster by a lot, I'd consider getting a new one.

Although having a faster CPU will help (meaning you have to buy a new laptop); getting more RAM and a fast Solid State Drive (SSD) will actually help improve processing speed more significantly for Photoshop and Lightroom icon_rolleyes.gif

Mobile Core i5 performs similarly to the Desktop Core i3, definitely heaps faster than any Core 2 Duo by miles.

in my opinion

SSD is a must , 8gb RAM , i5 at least , and most important is IPS monitor , u have a good rig without good monitor also useless ,

when choosing laptop , don't simply buy a cheap laptop with god spec but with HD display only , go for better display ^^

i'm eyeing on Acer sw5-171p-84rw , good spec with good display , can be tablet mode !!!

Hmmm, Acer ?
I'm somehow quite skeptical of some range of Acer laptops.
From the fact that their quality control and build quality is pretty bad.
It's not just the specs and monitor that matters. The keyboard and trackpad plays an important role as well.

How about the Aspire S7 ? heard that got some pretty good reviews

bro , Aspire S7 sure good , but the price is GOOD too =.=" u should compared with the range around RM2.9~RM3k biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Read the review from youtube and web , the acer sw5-171p-84r is a really good buy , for serious job , get a small Wireless + mouse keyboard Logitech MK220 (my favourite keyboard) , my home , office 4 PC , my brother home pc , my wife laptop , all using the MK220 keyboard , compact , light and very nice to use biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

If got a little bit more budget , get DELL IPS monitor , when u get home , just plug HDMI cable to ur monitor and u are good to go biggrin.gif biggrin.gif , All this u can get below the price u pay Aspire S7 brows.gif brows.gif

Acer sw5 offer , 120GB ssd + 500gb HDD , so far don have any other company offer this kind of spec biggrin.gif
