KLCI was up 1.28 points or just 0.07% to 1,711.14. Turnover was 2.42 billion shares valued at RM2.45bil. There were 433 gainers, 414 losers and 315 counters unchanged.
Inter-Pacific Securities Sdn Bhd research head Pong Teng Siew said some foreign funds were slowly entering the market after the recent selldown. Pong said these foreign institutional investors were focusing mainly on blue chip stocks. "These foreign funds are slowly buying into the blue chips, supporting the modest gains in the KLCI. However, these funds are still adopting a wait-and-see approach, to see if the market's gains are sustained. "Foreign funds are also keeping an eye on the upcoming entry of ValueCap Sdn Bhd into the local market, to see if the injection will be enough to stimulate the stock market, he said. |

BIMB Securities Research said that in Asia, key indices ended mostly higher yesterday with strong gains in Japan on expectations that the BOJ may undertake further easing at its policy meeting end of this month. "Trading participation saw net buying by foreign institutions while local institutions and retail were net sellers. "We believe the local market shall continue to trend sideways with slight bias to up-trend due to the returning of foreign investors and expect to see immediate resistance at 1,710/1,715," it said. |

FBM KLCI rose 5.84 points or 0.3% to closed at 1,710.93 points, tracking Asian share gains after the European Central Bank (ECB) hinted more stimulus to sustain the region's economy.
Bursa Malaysia saw 2.42 billion shares valued at RM2.005 billion traded. There were 525 gainers against 318 decliners. JF Apex analyst Lee Cherng Wee told theedgemarkets.com that the KLCI's rise was attributed more to external factors, rather than local ones such as the Budget 2016 announcement. "The market's performance is likely driven more by external factors, such as the stronger performance from the US markets, and the hint from the ECB that more stimulus was on the way. "Given the minimal increase in market points today, I don't think the tabling of the budget today had much impact on investor sentiment," Lee said. |

FBM KLCI fell 9.84 points or 0.6% as investors took profit across Asian share markets ahead of the US Federal Reserve's two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.
Across Bursa Malaysia, decliners outran gainers at 588 to 269 while 296 stocks remained unchanged. There were 1.89 billion shares worth RM1.88 billion traded. Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd head of research Chan Ken Yew said that the Malaysian share market was undergoing correction after the Budget 2016 announcement. Chan said Kenanga had no idea on the extent of the KLCI's correction. "Our selling zone is 1,700 points to 1,720 points, but we do not know to what extent the correction would continue. As of now, we see strong support at 1,660 points," he said. |
