Have been using uTorrent 1.7 beta quite sometimes, want to share the new feature "Automatice" upload rate with people.

Most people may already know, when set your upload rate to high may affect your download speed, or even others internet application, e.g. Web browsing.
But the concept of BT is sharing, the more your share, the more you get.
So, increase the upload speed always help your download speed. Usually we set the upload rate in a fix rate. Somtimes it is not efficient because of inconsistent network activity.
So, to optimize your upload rate, utorrent has came out a new feature that "Automatic" adjust your upload rate. After sometimes of experience, I give the following suggestion for the setting.

Under "Connection", check the "Automatic" checkbox at the Upload setting.
Next go to "Advanced", set the following:

bt.auto_ul_interval    150
bt.auto_ul_max      **** (see below)
bt.auto_ul_min        1000

for bt.auto_ul_max, devide your ISP upload rate by 8.
eg. Streamyx Packages

Basic 384k (U: 128k) -  16
Basic 512k (U: 256k) -  32
Basic 1.0M (U: 384k) -  48

people may think that it may too high since it is just near the maximum.
but don't worry, uTorrent will measure the speed, and most of the time, it will control under 80% of your Max.

Please share your experience after apply this setting. smile.gif

Great to hear that. doh.gif
But since Beta build 2740 had made some changes to bt.auto_ul_min, setting too low has weird result. Now recommend set it to at least 1500 or 2000.

icon_question.gif hope u guys are not tired of Q's regarding speed of utorrent. but my problem is really wierd.

Currently, my download speed with popular torrent with connected peers (78) and seeders(211) is 5kb/s to the max of 15kb/s. previously i got about 80-90kb/s. However, my upload rate is 15kb/s (that's what i set to).

i've disable firewall and don't have any other firewall program. i use router but i already open the port to the router and test checked show that the port is open.

the balloon show green light and there's no NAT error.

i've try to disable uPnP and DHT option and restart the router and computer between the changes, but download speed is still the same. I also have enable encryption.

I've already read all the guide and follow all recommended procedure, but still, my download will finish after i seed about twice the size i'm downloading.

I know there's something wrong because after speed test, my connection is about 80kb/s in average. The balloon also always green and my port confirmed to be opened and there's no NAT problem. Upload is okay, but downloading is a task.

Anybody have experienced this? I already ask at utorrent forum but the guy keep replying the same answer "read the faq" or "follow the procedure". any help will do.

I even willing to belanja 2 Mc'd set to anyone who can come to my house and resolve this matter laugh.gif

Thanx in advance guys.

edit: I'm using Windows XP on Acer Laptop and my router is QDK from Conexant. I'm using the latest version of utorrent.

u also experienced low bt speed? Me too, last time i download speed was around 60kbps (my streamyx package is 512kb), but since last 2 months ago, got a fellow (tm net staff, cuz he drove a car got 'tm' logo) set my telephone pole. I had asked him what he doing, he said he want to test my speed cuz due to the low speed of my area (may b got someone was complained about his line). After few days my bt speed suddenly drop, no matter how i set, the speed still low, average bt speed around 20kbps and sometime only 5kbps, zzz
I had called the office they told me go to the speed meter (tm net webside speed tester) to test my speed, but i tested my speed and resulted my line no problem. So it mean that they blocked my p2p service, zzz, haiz kesian (normally i download 150Gb per month, may b of that reason they block my p2p service)

i know this is stupid, but i already re-format my harddisk to fresh copy of windows XP, still slow download. then i try remove and install back RAM, still slow download. Finally, connect to the internet directly with modem AZTECH that tm gave me, still the same speed! when i check to the speed meter (tm net webside speed tester) to test my speed, there's no indication of problem at all. I already consider setting of uPnP and DHT and also upload/download speed limit. The balloon also shows green.

Latest status of my download, using uTorrent
[DB]_Bleach_131 : Seeders: 84(20202), Peers: 12(5174). Download Speed: 15kb/s max, Upload Speed: 14- 17kb/s alll along.

µTorrent 1.7 Release Candidate 1 (build 2991)

Here is the 1.7 release candidate build. Assuming no further bugs are found, this will become the stable build as-is.

For 1.7, the biggest changes were full Vista support (including a new 256x256 icon) and the removal of the 65,536 piece limit for torrents. Also added was support for finding local peers (peers on the same LAN) and optionally not having any upload restrictions for them.

--- 2007-06-28: Version 1.7 (build 2991)
- Change: Icon is tweaked to look better on black backgrounds and to be less grainy
- Change: Popup menu from toolbar when collapsed is now native with icons and text, and has a border

I don't think your problem is weird at all as many of us are being throttled... So your best person to belanja 2 set of McD will be TMNut..... sad.gif

Oh, hang on, maybe exploring VPN will be a better..
