So after being away from photography for almost half a decade, I'm thinking of coming back into this hobby. Some may know me, some may not, doesn't really matter So been scouting for used dSLRs for a few days, and deciding to stay with Canon again. The grip and layout just suits me in a way a Nikon never has. Went from a 400D to 30D to 5D Mk II with a 70-200mm f4 L but sold everything during the whole shit tastic scandal of a certain Mr Ong. Couldn't stand the community so I left. Now I'm back. 7D? 60D? Or should I turn tail and go Nikon with the D700s? I shoot mainly portraits and extremely rarely anything else so looking for a good combo for lens and body. 85mm f/1.8 is already in my sights, but what are the thoughts of the community regarding my problem?

But then again I'm a gear head , I collect too many gears. for me the IQ is roughly there already after crossing the 20mpix threshold. Some may disagree. Im just a hobbyist.

I'm not too much fussed about size and weight, much more on high ISO quality and JPEG processing capabilities without having to shoot RAW to get the most out of the system. What mirrorless models do you think compare favourably with a 7D and a good L lens?

What mirrorless models do you think compare favourably with a 7D and a good L lens? personally I'm eyeing on the Sony a7s. But didnt really compare much about the jpg rendering Hm... I shoot RAW. I always find older Sony jpgs overly saturated. Canons too Magenta and Nikons more greens. My friends jump from Nikon to Sony mirrorless. He is a jpg shooter since day one. Seems to love it. Looking at his results I think the colors recently for Sonys JPG processing is pretty decent. But thats up to personal taste and probably colour profile tweaking needed. on full on dSLR... I love my 7D... tested the 7Dii loved it should just skip considering 7D bro. If got budget 5dMk3 worth every RM

bear in mind, many has jumped from big DSLRs to small mirrorless. there are pros and cons. don't be too quick in buying.
some "enthusiast" mirrorless with EVF to consider
Nikon V series Fuji XE2 Panasonic GX7 Olympus OM-D M5 Sony A6000
ask around why some stay with DSLR, and why some jumped to mirrorless. only you can decide!

QUOTE(zzzxtreme @ May 6 2015, 01:46 PM) is size important? do you really wish to lug around a big dslr ? Nope, size and weight are of little importance to me. Have lugged around a 5D Mk II + 70-200 f/4 L for quite awhile back in the day, and I'm fine with that combo. I've been checking out some Samsung NX series reviews, and Sony a7 series as well for mirrorless, and although they are indeed producing pretty decent pictures I still feel that the 7D has more to offer. I have pretty large hands so a semi-pro body and grip suits me as well, while most mirrorless are pretty darn small. The 400D sometimes game me cramps while gripping it.
