AMAGASAKI, HYOGO PREF. – Survivors and kin of the 107 people killed by the Amagasaki train derailment in Hyogo Prefecture in 2005 turned out Saturday to mark the 10th anniversary of the crash and mourn those lost.

Several people surveyed, however, say they are still unable to move on and may yet sue West Japan Railway Co. for compensation.

“I still often feel fear when I’m riding on a train,” one said.

On April 25, 2005, a rush-hour train was speeding around a curve on the Fukuchiyama Line when it derailed and wrapped itself around the corner of a condominium complex at 9:18 a.m., killing 106 passengers and the driver. Another 562 people were injured.

It was the worst rail disaster in the history of the Japan Railway group, which was created in 1987.

Technically, tight curve radius was too close to speed limit. They increased the curve radius after the accident.

Human factors: the work culture in JR led to the driver being under extreme stress & nervous breakdown

This is not shinkansen but normal train like our Komuter, even runs on tracks with similar spec to Malaysian (Cape Gauge 1067mm)

Shinkansen is on separate network using standard (1435mm) gauge

Yep....imho the work culture is too strict & easily can cause driver error. They would be better off automating & having driver there for emergency/non standard operations.

Meanwhile here....ive seen the driver get out of the Komuter, walk to the side of the platform & kencing doh.gif doh.gif

Still remember this tragedy. Human error not only from driver, also come from stupid passenger who insist to go in train which suppose to depart on time. Imagine every station got ppl rush in to closing train door and causing delay.

JR network is complex, very unlikely to be driverless
