Basically this is not so related to this thread but it is also related to job.
This is how is it. I just want to know is this consider as company property?

Company send you to an event. Then in the event u saw a book and is free. All u need is just attend the talk then they will give u the book. So i had attended it and have the book. Badly is i already leave the company and now i'm having the book with me.

The question is the book is company or mine? As i think that is not belong to company. The reason is the book is not a complimentary book when you go to the event. Is not like for those that went to the event then can have the book. That is IF only u see it and attend the talk. Another example is, if i won a lucky draw in the event then is it for company or myself? Another one is, IF i saw some free gifts
and i took it, then the gift is belong to who?

Need comment as maybe what i think is wrong.

Yes that is what i think too. Since is not a complementary book. If i took it then i bring go home without their notice they also don't know i have it rite.
Anwhere is just a book. If they want it back then i just give it to them. I don't even want it.

if the company sends you to the event, in actual fact booklets or books or working paper should belong to the company. but since you didnt "announce" you took anything so i doubt the company will know.

So u mean that it is belong to company.
Actually when i got the book i did let them know. So now they are asking me where is the book and i'm not suppose to take it.

But i do feel this is ridiculous. That is not a book where once u register for the event then u will have a free book as a gift.

in your own statement you also said attend the talk and they give you the book.

so they do have the right to ask for it. unless you feign it to be lost of photocopy it.

hehe

Yes. My meaning is IF i didn't attend it then i won't have it. And the book is just 100 only. And i think that time the ppl that attend is more than 100.

The thing i want to highlight is that, this is not when you register for the event then you will get it. As some is when you register for the entire event package then they will give you somethin as complimentary. While this is not.

An example is like, if i won a tour in lucky draw. But bfore i go to the tour i already left the company. Then is it i have to give up the tour?

Ehmm basically i also don't know much bout this coz i just worked not too long. Therefore i'm asking at here. biggrin.gif

Thanks for your comment too, ParaOpticaL.

Just keep the book and forget about the company lah! What for you want to return to that company unless you really don't want ? Another example is, if you found RM50 on the road, do you plan to report to police or just keep it ?

I agree that the company has rights over the book/material. After all, you attended the event on the company's budget and time, and most importantly they are paying you to go to the course.

Best practice is to surrender everything to the company when you leave, esp things that you are unsure of, at least to make sure that there are no strings attached.

In my point of view the book still belong to company since they pay.

Why not you ask your Company(HR) ..since u got it as free gift,
can you keep it ?
as memories. LOL..

is better ask lor...to double confirm...at least u can keep in peace oso la..

Jehutyz,

You are asking the WRONG question. The RIGHT question should be is it worthwhile for me to risk my reputation over one book?? Do you want to come clean or ends up getting being talk bad by your former employer over a SINGLE STUPID book??

When in doubt, return the book. It is NOT worth the trouble and risk of getting a bad reputation. The world is very small and people do talk.

Do you really need those book ? If not, just return to the company and close the issue.

I think this is the best solution since the book is useless to you.
