Hi guys. Finally i have reached to a point where i dont think i need to upgrade any of my ICE anymore. Im very satisfied on this build already. Also i love to have my own build log for future reference. No showing off intention here. This build is a newbie's build in my journey of SQ. Some Pics to share rclxms.gif

1. My Headunit brows.gif I opted for this CDA-9886 instead of a mainstream CDA-9887 because it has a USB Ready input and comes along with an ipod cable. I have my ipod with me. I barely use USB sticks. Combo it with a PXA-H100 to unlock its Imprint. If not, i would only have bass and treble with no xover. 9886 is just a blank headunit with multiEQ ready @ imprint. Smexy PXA-H100 there. Set all my netowrks to External AP and on the PXA-H100 at 3WAY. Here im running a 3 way active front and a sub at rear. How did i do that? In the imprint menu, after i switched the switch at the side of the processor to 3 WAY. i got this feature for xover. Low, Mid-L, Mid-H and High. thumbup.gif Set them to their respectively FS, Low at 40Hz, Mid low at 40HZ too since its a mirror. Mid High at 315Hz HPF and high at 5Khz HPF icon_idea.gif the Sub and Mid Low, i used a Y splitter and manually adjust the gain from the amp itself. In time alignment mode, i set the distance following my mid low instead of sub. The sub will always be played at a barely heard level. Humming together with my mid low's. the Mid High is set at 18db i will post a video of it running one of these days.

2. My Amps. I did not take a photo of my new PG Ryval Designs 2.150 here. Im so sorry. I will upload it again when i have the chance. These amps are all Ryval Designs amps.
- A4.75 (high, mid high)
- A2.75 (mid low)
- A2.150 (sub-W)

All running active NOW thumbup.gif

3. My Speaker driver! rclxms.gif cheapo entry level morel maximo 6.5" These are running actives. Discarded the passive xovers here

and my 2.8" mid drivers are from SG Acoustics. Made in thailand. Response frequency at 300Hz

4. My first A-Pillar built. Looks like crap as im still learning in the method of DIY'ing

5. My subwoofer. This is a Phoenix Gold Octane R 12" DVC. icon_rolleyes.gif Enclosed in a custom box. Measuring 1.25CFU, tuned at 26hz ported at 2.5" round

user posted image

6. Here's how i stack my bonet. DIY amp rack. Screwed wrongly. Now i have no time to adjust it YET

7. Bought myself the inner door layer, which is originally plastic and changed it to metal. Now it gives better bass response and finally my windscreen can open for the past 2 years (wonder what have i been doing for the past 2 years, didnt even take effort to change it. So my first step was to fully soundproof that. This i did 3 layers. Inner door frame, inner power window frame and outer power window frame. The holes i covered it up with soundproof too (sounded like i have a 8" sub at my door now )

So, the PG Ryval A.150 had a noisy cap cry.gif . Wanted it so bad but he said he cant do much but he offer me an exchange on the amp. He said i can choose on 4 selections of amp.

1. Velocity VD502 High End Pro Audio Reference by Blaupunkt (tickled my fancy, subsonic filter, bass boost which i dont really use, level control remote, HP,LP,Flat)
2. Lightning Audio Strike 300.2 (dont really like this, looks too fancy)
3. Rockford Fosgate Prime R152 (no subsonic filter too)
4. Coustic Powerlogic 100W RMS 2 channel (i barely remember the model) (has no subsonic filter)

Here are some pics. Installation time, my phone was out of battery so i didnt have a good overall pic of it but its MINE thumbup.gif

Got myself a P80RS2 for collection. This unit has like 0% scratches. Told was and old new demo stock. This will totally go inside my collections of Headunits. Hooked up and played around. All i could say that it sounds brighter than my 9886 + imprint. Still fiddling around. No vids yet rclxms.gif

So.. another build's in progress. Today i measured out my bonet to make a faceplate. I used a cardboard to take the measurements so that i wont screw up the cuttings like what i ever did before, everything went haywire. So. Enjoy some pics as im grieving because of the rain is delaying my project. thumbup.gif The main result is suppose to have a window. Using a plexiglass to show the amps and woofer and hide whatever hideous things i have in the bonet.

This is my usual workbench in my car porch.

Hello, allow me to correct. Bonnet (or hood) is the front engine cover. The "Boot" or "trunk" is at the storage area. For rear engine car the terms still apply. Often come across this misconception. Thank you.

Boot or Bonnet is British term, Hood or Trunk is American, just like Spanner or Wrench.
No harm at learning and correcting oneself where applicable.'

Anyway, congrats on your enthusiastic DIY ICE build. Me DIY install everything too within my Myvi and to pro standards, all cables and harness adapters specially joined and soldered.
Just fixed a dash USB and BT mic socket on the dash using a spare switch cover bought from Perodua. All easily reversible and won't void any warranty.

Tu lah! dah silap.. like the adage "I/We stand corrected" Trouble is, right word for the wrong item. Like "Spanner or Spannar (malay)"..its because of British influence in our education system.

Continue...

This is the thing that i use to stick the rings to the pillar. For measurement purpose. This time, i make them off axis. Not directly facing to me.

The Hot Glue. I use this because it helps stick the wood and "bones" together to the Pillar.
user posted image
user posted image

By using a stretchy cloth, i made the base of the pillar. Its just stretching the cloth over the whole thing. And then apply resin to it so that it hardens. I did not use any fibreglass YET. Fibreglass will only be involved when i will be doing the inner part of the rings.

It was 6pm already when i finished that. So i have to continue again tomorrow. Stay tune for more nod.gif

Good reason to upgrade also. Morel tweeter is not as good. When its new its also difficult to listen. I run in for almost 8 months. Only now consider listen able.

I think it can be made to work with suitable adapter box. Certain higher end HU can connect directly and program it on HU to work. I use such HU, but steering no remote buttons. RM20 (ori) buck RC will do fine..

Yeah but the clock spring for the steering wheel is different, unless maybe you can retrofit a Preve clock spring in. Also, not too sure how the buttons inside are wired, if it's linked to a can bus or act as individual switches. Didn't bother wiring it up haha

Thanks. I went back to the shop to show my disapointment because of what you said it was super overpriced. infact i wanted a refund. He gave me back RM300. I said that if you dont refund i will make your shop a bad name, no reputation at all in facebook and sort. So now since he gave me back Rm300 and decided to settle it in a good way. Is it still overpriced?

So i manage to refurbish the A/D/S monoblock. I asked over at DIYMa and the guys there helped me find the technical specs. It does 600W @ 2 ohms and 1200W @ 1 ohm. A very old cheater amp they said. Restoration pics smile.gif

I use a window cleaner to clean the original acrylic plate. Now it looks fantastic rclxms.gif

This was the front plate. Some real scratches there. Still dont know how am i gonna refurbish this. I manage to remove all the dirt grime and double tapes off.

Put in a strip of red LED's. its suppose to be brighter if hooked on a car battery. This, i hooked the LED's +/- wire to my PC molex. Dont think it generates 12v?

Hooked up this baby, and it power's on like an angel rclxm9.gif

*replaced some capacitors which i find are aging.

Here is some pictures of the teasing tube amp which im gonna use. I belive WIMA film caps are good? No?

Just a lil update on the trunk. Did my custom subwoofer box measuring at 1.75 cfu per chamber with a 3" diameter port and port length is at 8" to get the 32hz response. Getting ready for SQL this august. Still left incomplete is the components at the rear. Now raya. Not in a mood to do some moulding + fibre. And also another deck above the amps where with windows and 2 fan. Managed to test the subs last night. Kinda loud, actually, its quite loud for me. blink.gif

user posted image

Oh yea, forgot to mention, im wiring those woofers at Parallel. Both are 2 Ohm subs. amp is running at 1ohm now. As what "people" claimed, my amps runs at 1200W RMS@1 ohm rclxms.gif Last night, there were no clips or distortion. Just the right amount of juice.

Just sharing. Ive been missing for quite a while. Im back with supports from friends on asking me to dont "pencen" since most of my eq got stolen. cry.gif Just fooling around with what i can afford. Got 2 videos from 2 different car. One belongs to my lil brother and one is me.

Vid 1.
Alpine 9853 | Mohawk Platinum MP65 on active | Dominations ES12" | Dominations RS4500
- Tweeters run active direct to HU, Mid bass and sub to amp. Budget SQ setup, will add another amp later -

Vid 2.
My updated setup
Alpine 9855 | Dominations ES61 on active | Alpine PDM-F640 | Mohawk 10" Underseat sub. (who say underseat sub not worth it? tune it right. U get enough juice to fill up the front stage.)

whistling.gif Sorry for my potato phone. audio recording like tahi lembu. seems like it capture the high part better than the rest doh.gif

Remy101 to clear ur doubts about underseat subs. i can make it louder than that but it defeats the purpose of (bass extension)

Bro, since you're so into DIY, can I suggest you research Tunebox. It allows airplay and DLNA into an optical source or RCA. That way you can start to play from your handphone or ipads to your system.

My setup in my car is like this :

Tunebox --> Processor --> Amps --> Speaker.

And tunebox supports Airplay and DLNA, so compared to bluetooth, the sound quality doesn't drop and because I connect everything using optical the sound is pretty pure. Which also presents the problem of the song quality, any poor song recordings are very evident.

I bypassed my headunit altogether, I don't use it anymore except for rear camera. Even radio I play via my phone through the radio station app.

The Tunebox is a small wireless receiver device. There's other devices out there that do the same thing but I'm only familiar with Tunebox. It's marketed as a home audio device that accepts wireless transmission from phones and other devices to play on your non-wireless home hifi equipment.

It really depends on the recording. So far CD beats the crap out of Spotify even when set to highest quality. But FLAC files are as good as CDs.

FLAC files are quite easy actually. Torrent! hahaha.. I have no idea about ITunes/AAC but I'd assum ITunes is pretty high quality since you'd have to pay for each song you download. Only issue I have with FLAC is how stupidly huge the songs are. Smallest song I have is 30Mb and the bigger 160mb... that's just for one song!

As for USB, i have a slight hint of understanding. Im afraid that ( Portable media device already converted from Digital to Analog > AUX > Analog convert to Analog again no?)

For flac compatibility, I was thinking about having full DA (diggital audio) route. My main concern is the dsp, of whether it can deal with 24/192 injects from lets say Fiio X3 2nd gen optic out. Not saying that 24/192 or any higher bitrate is better but yea I have some of them in my collection and wondering how they perform with ICE setup. Candidates were Helix dsp pro and that Alpine PXa h800. But, lately reputable brands like phoenix gold and audiocontrol have entered digital processing so the wait could be worth doing while knowing helix dsp pro and alpine h800 were already a major establishment.

Due to major swing in my investments, I have to use the budget for ICE to open new platforms so that at the end of the road I wont be desperately selling the setup just to have something on my plate day one.

Some updates.

I changed my player to a Eclipse CD7000 for a few weeks till i have enough cash for a dream come tru Denon headunit. rclxms.gif

The eclipse that i used for a few weeks CD7000. Has a very nice vocals on this. Vocals on this baby is clear. Without altering any EQ n other aesthetics. But sadly, i sold it off. bye.gif

user posted image

Once i got the cash that i need. I removed all of my RCA (used to be Flux BC cables) and changed all of it to Tchernov Standard 2IC. This is my first most expensive RCA ive ever owned. All 4 cables are 1.65m of length. Cost me RM520 each.

user posted image

And my long awaited Denon DCT-A100. That moment it came to the post and to my palms bruce.gif rclxm9.gif
The moment i tested it at my test bench. I knew its not those overhyped headunits. Ran active on my test bench. My cheapo Dominations Buddies sounded like expensive speakers. Used those Remastered CD's "audiophile"

And got myself a cheap DSP for me to go active

Some of you might be familiar with the brand Flux, Yep.... Dekit my dominations components and went for an upgrade. I went with Flux Spirit. Tho i changed the grills on it to use flux basic because

1. Im scared that my daughter will be poking things into it like she did before
2. The grills on basic is honeycomb and has a full look to it compared to spirit.

Changed all my speaker cables to Tchernov cables. Yet still, all this mods, not even keen to join any competition blink.gif all for self pleasure thumbup.gif

Continue on the setup. Manage to get myself another Flux FA100.4. Took me quite a while hunting it down. Its damn hard to find one unlike the recent products Evo and Sporty (internals like garbage). Also added 2 more Tchernov RCA and tweeter wire, also from Tchernov. Just some installation pics tho. Nothing much.

The very moment i open up my front chairs. Yup. Very messy. My previous wiring job was just average. Easily pulled cables. But nvm. My intention was to dekit all my previous speaker wiring and do it right. Finalized.

Continue the pics. biggrin.gif

Was brainstorming on where should i mount my DSP.. After 3 sticks of ciggies and some tempering, i decided to mount it behind the underseat sub (temporary solution) Till i can make my "fiber sub box" in front and only then properlly screw on the DSP on the box itself at the same location.

Tucked in all the wires properly this time. Under the carpet. Not beside. Since i aint gonna change any speaker wires anymore. rclxms.gif

Compared to the equipment he's using, WCC is too entry level

If you're talking bout the WCC 3 way component where the magnet of the speakers are small diameter (dont remember what type of magnet its called. Berylium if im not mistaken) i have already auditioned it. Not up to my expectation and price vs performance. The WCC is only selling for its brand. If you have a chance to audition Flux Spirit and the WCC, you would know what i mean. But still. Thats just my 2 cents. Different people has different ears.

I understand. Reading reviews is one thing. Some reviews are biased also. Still, its better if u have a chance to audition one. Then u may figure it out isit worth the price vs performance of it. Btw, what is HAT? hmm.gif

Done my research. The West Coast Custom is following the Legatia SE from Hybrid Audio. I think is the strip down of the real deal Legatia. Ive audition the Legatia SE but i wonder why does it not sound the same as the WCC by HAT.

Hahaha...that's what I'm saying..But what do you think? Is it compareable to the real HAT? or is it worth getting at all?

Got some goodies in a box today. Inside the box are some stuff for me to sell but what do you know. Deep down inside was a Nakamichi CD-45Z. I guess most of u ICE'ers are familiar with that model so i dont think i need to intro anything on it right? Just sharing a pic.
