QUOTE(kucuboy @ Jan 16 2017, 03:43 AM) For those who wonder how different the packaging for the Mi Box with Android TV 6.0 is between the one released in the USA and from China. They both have the same model number mdz-16-ab. Functionality is the same, If the US version gets updated, so does the international version. And no, your regular mi box China interface cannot be converted to run Android TV. The international version also has playstore by default. If unsure, always check if the seller states that it runs ANDROID TV. There's a difference between android TV the operating system and Android box which most lesser known companies are offering. For the photos below, the orange box is the unit sold in the US while the unit I received from China via AliExpress is in the plain brown box. Cheers In short, there is no software and functionality difference between the US (Orange Box) vs the International (Brown Box) versions, correct? PS - BTW, where to purchase the US (Orange Box) version?

QUOTE(abubin @ Feb 6 2017, 02:38 PM) i found out that my mi box is getting intermittent connection. It looks like it is due to the wifi being not stable. Can I know everyone else are you having similar issue? I am thinking of getting wifi ac or get a LAN connection. Personally, I'd go for LAN if want buffer-free streaming - all my streamer boxes are connected through LAN - the only one on wifi (Apple TV) suffers lag and intense buffering (despite using AC router)

QUOTE(abubin @ Feb 6 2017, 05:36 PM) yeah..i prefer wired connection too but pulling a cable from top level to ground floor is a bit challenging. Have to hack through walls and so on. Might even need to hire professionals to do it. Solution: Powerlines http://www.dlink.com.my/product-category/p...king/powerline/

QUOTE(Scirwode @ Feb 25 2017, 01:13 PM) Finally joined the Android TV bandwagon and bought a Xiaomi Mi Box TV (International Version). Setup for it was super smooth and very easy (used my phone to register). Now installing apps for it and seeing what is available. Scirwode Congrats! Mine too, arrived last week (international version). A few observations/comments: 1. I noticed that the pre-installed VLC doesn't support multichannel audio DD or DTS. Only when I use Kodi, the DD/DTS are enabled. Anyone having this issue? 2. Google Play Store have region specific Apps (some which are not available here in the Malaysian store). You need a US-based Google Account to be able to download these apps (ie. SlingTV, Hulu, etc)

QUOTE(gwong @ Mar 1 2017, 04:46 PM) I dont think its due to US-Based google account, basically if you are being detected not in the US (geolocation) they would not allow those apps (i.e. for you due to rights issue), you can still sideloads the apps but to watch you need to VPN. https://www.quora.com/How-can-you-download-...Khan?srid=uLZ3c

QUOTE(gwong @ Mar 1 2017, 11:29 PM) Anyway, I think those APPs are not meant for our market hence it make no sense for Xiaomi to preload those apps, which will only cause potential problem with users complaining why this can't use that can't use. But you can use these apps via VPN (via download from Google Play or sideloading them to your box). You're right. Perhaps the official Malaysian version (http://www.mi.com/my/mibox/) will not have SlingTV, Pandora and other US based apps in the recommender.
