Hmmmm....I was as happy as you when I got mine to replace my nexus player as well...but I dunno why, I still stick to my Nexus Player now, maybe the update is slow and I am not really impressed  dry.gif
*
the OS updates are slower? is it running Android 7 already? Any other drawbacks or benefits over Nexus Player? Appreciate for sharing in advance! wink.gif

just did some googling.. and realize that Nougat wasn't released for this box yet. what a bummer! ranting.gif
I have an impression that it will be updated per the same schedule as Nexus Player. Makes me rethink my decision to buy it.. tongue.gif

Hmmm..how could i put it...you have experience Nexus Player (now on Android 7), when I moved back to Android 6 on this box just that the feeling is not that good as I have used Android 7 (maybe that's just me). I think is is one of the drawback, where a more recent box like this can't have an updated OS if compared to Nexus Player which is already >2 years old.

I bought this box thinking for it's ability to play 4K, but end of they day I realize that 1080p is pretty decent for me, so it's not much or a benefit for me at this point.

Anyway, it's not a Nexus / Pixel device, so it would not get exclusive software support directly from Google. Thus I don't think it will get updated on the same time as per Nexus Player.
*
thanks for the feedback! I'll reconsider. The main reason I'm replacing my Nexus Player is due to the original remote has broken, currently using the Xiaomi's Game Controller because I can't find a replacement remote. doh.gif

I see...remote broken? you dropped it? I do understand how different it feels by using a Gamepad to navigate instead of a remote control.
Btw, Why not get an air mouse? I think it works like a remote.
*
my kids dropped it multiple times. I don't like using an air mouse. Gamepad is okay just a bit bulky. I'm supposed I'll go ahead and buy one Mi Box to try. Hopefully, they'll release Nougat soon. thumbsup.gif

just realized that iFlix Android TV app is available and they've just launched limited HD content too. I'm supposed it will be used as part of the local content in the Mi Box Malaysia version. hmm.gif

I couldn't find iflix on my Android TV - you have it?

The HD content is for like 20 or so titles only, but it will grow with time.
*
I used Play store from web browser to push it to my Nexus Player, just search for iFlix.

Thanks. Just installed it. Looks alright but UI is a bit jerky and app navigation still kinda sucks.

If only the experience was like the Netflix app..
*
You're most welcome! I guess we just need to give them time to improve. Netflix has been in the business for many years.. iFlix definitely have a lot to catch up, they're doing pretty well considering they're still very young. innocent.gif

Thanks! Just placed an order for one. Somehow, the system allows me to order instead of waiting until 12noon later. Will post back if it satisfies my needs or disappoints me. thumbup.gif

too bad.. I expect they'd probably include free iFlix or Dimsum subscriptions but too bad.. doh.gif
anyway, I don't need them either since my broadband at home not very good for streaming. As long as I can install Kodi is good enough and of course use Google Cast from time to time. Still waiting for my unit to arrive. cool2.gif

nice! thumbsup.gif
IMHO, it's not much difference buying from Mi Store in Lazada with discount code. It will have local warranty and faster delivery time. I have actually been hesitating since last year whether to import one in or not. Once they announced it, I made up my decision to buy the local unit. nod.gif

I'm officially a club member as well. icon_idea.gif Received my Mi Box official Malaysia unit a little while ago. Overall experience is nice, similar to my good old Nexus Player. I like the remote's tactile feedbacks.. Overall build quality is better than the Nexus Player, IMHO. The only drawback I'm seeing now is the updates for Android OS like other members mentioned, it's still running on Android 6.0.1 where as Nexus Player already running on 7.1.1 many months ago.

As for 4k performance, I didn't get to test it as I don't have a 4k TV. tongue.gif

Here's a photo with both sets side by side:

Just want to add that I notice that Mi Box has a lot more app selections especially games compared to Nexus Player, most likely due to the aging hardware for Nexus Player. I'll use Google Cast, Kodi and YouTube app most of the time but will definitely check out the games since I have 2 x Mi Gamepad Controllers. thumbup.gif

those with Mi Box international/Malaysia version, do you have problem controlling using Google's own Android TV app (it's a remote control app for Android TV)? I don't have problem with my Nexus Player but with the Mi Box, I can't seem to connect on either iOS or Android even though it detects the Mi Box. The error shown is "Failed to connect" cry.gif

No issue from my end as well, connected to my Mibox using the Android TV app.
Both my Nexus player and Mibox also no problem connecting to the remote control app.
