Xiaomi Mi Box S 4K Ultra HD Android TV Set-top Box Launched for $59.99

Xiaomi Mi Box (US/International) was so far the most affordable solution if you wanted a full Android TV experience, and the box is part of our best TV boxes list for under $100. But the company has now introduced Xiaomi Mi Box S with a design very similar to Xiaomi Mi Box 4 sold in China, but running Android 8.1 TV geared towards the US market instead of Android plus a Chinese user interface.

Xiaomi Mi Box S specifications:

SoC – Amlogic S905X quad core ARM Cortex-A53 @ up to 1.5GHz with penta-core Mali-450MP GPU
System Memory – 2GB DDR3
Storage – 8GB eMMC flash
Video Output – HDMI 2.0a up to 4K @ 60 Hz with HDR support
Audio – 3.5mm audio jack, Dolby Audio and DTS support
Video Codecs – 4K H.265 @ 60 fps, 4K VP9, 4K H.264 up to 30 fps, MPEG1/2/, VC1, DivX 4/5 up to 1080p60

USB – 1x USB 2.0 port
Power Supply – 5.2V/2.1A

The processor is different from the Amlogic S905L used in Xiaomi Mi Box 4, since you’ll need VP9 in the US market, and it’s lacking in S905L.

Xiaomi Android TV 4K Set top BoxThe box ships with a remote control, two batteries, a user manual, a HDMI Cable, and a power adapter. The new model looks very similar the first one release two years ago, but the remote control is different with extra buttons like Google Assistant and Netflix shortcuts, and the official price is about $10 cheaper, but patient buyers could always buy the original Xiaomi Mi Box at around $60 or less during promotions.

The new Xiaomi Mi Box S is now up for pre-order on Walmart for $59.99 with shipping scheduled for early November. It’s unclear whether the box will also be launched in other markets.

One last question, I found this mi box s with pre-installed app. Is this any good or should i just buy the official one. I have njoi prepaid but it seemed like njoi now app doesn't work anymore. There are ways to watch the basic channel but my family really want to watch a few astro channel and subscribing to astro just to watch 2-3channel really doesn't make sense to me.

Xiaomi’s new Mi Box 4S Pro supports 8K video playback

QUOTE
Xiaomi has launched the first 8K-capable Mi Box in China.

The streaming box also offers 16GB of storage compared to 8GB in the 4K variant.

Xiaomi says they don’t have global plans to share right now.
Over the past few years, Xiaomi has released a great lineup of set-top boxes, from the Mi Box 4S to the Mi TV Stick. Now, the company is releasing another streaming device, and it features support for 8K video playback.

Named the Mi Box 4S Pro, Xiaomi’s newest set-top box is one of the only 8K-capable set-top boxes available — and at such an affordable price, is very hard to beat. It features HDMI 2.1, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, and supports Bluetooth voice controls. It also sports Xiaomi’s MIUI, which should be familiar to anyone who has used one of the company’s streaming devices in the past.

Xiaomi’s Mi Box 4S Pro is a notable upgrade from the Mi Box 4S, which featured 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and support for 4K 60fps video playback. That device also supported voice controls, Dolby Audio and DTS Sound, making it one of the most feature-packed streaming devices for its price. Adding support for 8K video playback is an obvious play for the future.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the Mi Box 4S Pro, including what processor it runs. But that likely won’t matter to people when they see it supports 8K video playback.

The Mi Box 4S Pro will retail for 399 yuan (about $60) when it launches in China. Preorders for the device will be available beginning November 5. As of now, it’s unclear if Xiaomi’s latest set-top box will launch in any markets outside of China, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled if it does.
