if that item not legit, it's most likely 3S box with same spec on a custom global rom, you will have both Bluetooth and infrared remote options quite nice instead

Not really worries bout the warranty. Just wondering is this the legit international model mdz-16-ab or mdz-19-aa with some custom rom

Means if it's same spec should be mdz-19-aa model but with custom rom, right? Is it still android TV OS or normal android os with lean back launcher installed ?

Very confusing haha as I read, many says android TV can't be flashed on to the Chinese model mdz-19-aa

The MDZ-19-AA(Mibox 3s)physically difference is the remote control unit.
Chinese firmware and totally unrelated to AndroidTV.
No google play.

Big mistake to get this one.
Many try to root and convert it to international ROM.
Not many success stories because the bootloader is locked and encrypted.

Add another RM100 plus for the MDZ-16-AB.
Future proof and no headache.

From the sales page , it does mentioned that it's using Android TV 6.0 and the remote control does look the same as mdz-16-ab remote control with the mic button on the right. So does that means that it can't be mdz-19-aa since as u mentioned boot loader is locked means it's not possible to flash the Chinese fw to android TV right ?

the sales page is a trap.Some area shows MDZ-16-AB remote and some MDZ-19-AA remote.You never know which is which.It cannot be MDZ-16-AB with that price!
MDZ-16-AB present price is already a bargain.
To date, do not know anyone did it successfully.

Guys, it is possible to flash 19-aa with international 6.0 rom. in fact, you can even go for the 7.0 beta, but once that is done, you cannot downgrade back.

on 6.0 everything works fine, with google play and Youtube. BUT casting function only works from desktop. i've not figured how to cast from youtube phone app yet (lazy to try further; since this is just a good to have feature).
i have not tried Netflix because i do not have any subscription plan, but i read that one can side-load the apk version to run it, which can be found on the net to bypass any restrictions. Not sure whether there are any limitations to HD or 4K content tho. Maybe someone can verify.

Am using Astro OTG and Kodi happily on the since and everything works fine. although Astro Go initially had an issue where the main menu is 90 rotated, while kodi due to the recent tvadons shut down, is a bit difficult to get the correct addons which works, but currently i have icdrama and specto?? (not sure) working.

the remote for the china model is the non-bluetooth model, so to get voice search to work, you can either use the official Android TV remote app which uses your phone as the remote (with voice) function, or to get the bluetooth version separately for just rmb99, i think.
as for the original remote, which comes with the set, it is the new version with the touch feature, but since i have an older mibox 1s, that older remote works with the new set as well, just to share.

so, the price does looks attractive, but i strongly believe is is a 19-aa version flashed with the international rom.

I read that YouTube version 11.20.54 on the phone will make the casting work.

Bro, like I mentioned in my post, I DO NOT have Netflix subscription to try.

I'll check out the youtube version mentioned to see if casting works, but again that feature is just good to have for me, in the end u can easily search youtube videos u need thru the loaded youtube tv app.

The convenience of casting youtube from phone/tablet is that when you have multiple users at home, the youtube app on the mibox can be logged in using 1 account (e.g. my son's google account) but other users (e.g. wife and I) can cast from our own accounts using our respective devices - this way we keep our youtube histories, likes, dislikes, subscribed channels and playlists separate.

I have mdz-18-aa china version (White color). Seem not able to view china content. when try to check for software update, error such as there is a problem to check for update.
