I don't know what Asteruxx app you're referring to, but usually paid IPTV apps will work with both  rooted/jailbroken device as well as original box.

If Asteruxx is only what you're after, you really are paying a lot more than necessary.

Be wary of buying rooted/jaibroken Mi boxes, not only will you not get any updates, there are cases of people bricking their boxes even after firmware reset beforehand.
Yes. This looks like original from Mi Malaysia. The keyword is "warranty by Mi Malaysia".

Asteruxx means the illegal wan lor. Not allowed to be mentioned in this forum tongue.gif

Yeah man, and the sellers themselves wont warranty the unit even it is they themselves who jailbroke it. That is why Im leaning towards the original set. Dont want to have any headache later.

Of course I know what you are saying... I meant there are many providers with their own app... some are OK quality, some are bad, some masuk lockup already... usually these app don't care about jailbroken or not... they want to run on as many devices as possible... good luck...

bro, whatever box u buy, get the original unrooted, keep warranty.

this "root" thingy is rather oversold and under-understood.

what u r looking for, rooted or not is irrelevant.

sample applies to almost all apps.

the myths, benefits of rooting are less obvious, discussed in androidbox thread, page 34 onwards.

Right. My budget is about Rm300-Rm400. Is the Xiaomi a good buy. I dislike the MIUI on the Xiaomi smartphones so Im unsure if I will like it on the android box even though they are two different products.

How many boxes you have? Rule of thumb is get the latest model which is usually the best. Just like android smartphones. laugh.gif

Actually the main keyword is "international version" and Android "TV"6.0.
As for the AOG app, I have no luck running it on my mibox intl version. Keeps crashing or playback error. I'll just wait until there is a workaround it.

The mibox mdz-16-ab/Kodi 17.1 can get a DTS passthrough
by connecting HDMI to my TV which
then connects to my old Yamaha receiver with a optical cable.

"International" will likely get you AP set...about RM 300...

"Malaysia" will likely be the local Mi Malaysia warranty set...about RM 350...

Mi Box 3S jailbreak, etc...probably the China set...about RM 280...

Perhaps a reset may get Astro Go to work?

dd, dts = digital audio
5.1, 7.1 = multichannel, surround audio.

HD audio = dtshdma, ddtruehd
of course, there is now ddatmos, dtsx.

i have been playing HD audio since 2010.
to my knowledge, not many android boxes can pass thru hd audio, ddatmos, dtsx.

I too haven't faced this issue. I use it primarily for kodi, Netflix and Spotify. Smooth and nice so far.
