not sure why my mi box always have constant lag, doesn't matter if I use LAN or wifi to connect, it will always lag after some time even though restarted the mi box or router. currently using unifi 50mbps plan, so I think the problem is with the mibox. could it be the vpn ?

What do you mean by lag? Which version mi box? Lags during which app? What vpn u using?

Hi guys. Im planning to buy an android box and came across the Mibox. I wonder whether I should buy the original set or the ap set which comes with jail break. I will be using the box mainly to watch asterux. Which Mibox should I go for? All replies appreciated. Oh and I will be getting the hypp tv together with my Unifi subscription, so will i need to remove the hypp tv box to install the Mibox or can it be connected simultaneously?

If u want to watch asterux, any android box is fine. If you want youtube to work flawlessly, chromecast feature, perhaps Netflix in future and get google assistant and voice search then get the mibox international version. If most of the answers are no, then get the cheaper android boxes. Yes can use simultaneously, just need to switch hdmi port on tv or your receiver (amplifier)

You can sideload Astro Go into HyppTV box... if that's all you require there's no need for Mi box...But you'll need to switch Lan ports when switching between HyppTV and Astro.

You can hook up the two boxes... no problem.

No. Astro Go app is very fussy...not just any box will do. Even some of the Mi Box is having problems.

Sorry bro.. Im a noob on android box. What i mean is Asterux (if you really get what I mean), not really Astro On the Go. Isit possible on the original hypp tv box?

I think still can...you can try sideload the apk first and try... however TM made life a bit difficult for people so the initial process a bit of a hassle... lot's of discussion in the Huawei/TM box thread...

Paid IPTV most cheap boxes will run...but video quality can be hit or miss depending on source.

You should choose the international version.
Only 3 media box(nvidia tv,nexus player and mibox mdz-16-ab)
have real android tv experience.

Android O on Android TV expected to launch this summer.
Do not expect mibox to update that soon.

Thanks for the long write up. Seems like the android box is going through the same phase like the android boxes went through. Weaknesses of the Mibox should be its slower updates compared to nexus.

I still cant get Astrxx On The Go app to run on my mibox international version. Keep getting "Playback Error -1". Gave up trying as EPL season about to be over soon. It was working fine untill astro did a major UI overhaul for version 8 onwards. I know the mibox international is expensive compared to other cheap options, but it is really a much better box overall, in my opinion.

If you have rooted your device before or device comes rooted,
you will also face this problem for the apps-on the go.
And I think the found a good reason for doing this.

Sorry but is yours the official Astro OTG app or Asteruxx? I also read that the ap sets of MiBox that are jail broken cant be updated. Once updated, all the jailbroken apps needs to be reinstalled. Is that correct?

I don't know what Asteruxx app you're referring to, but usually paid IPTV apps will work with both rooted/jailbroken device as well as original box.

If Asteruxx is only what you're after, you really are paying a lot more than necessary. IMHO, this box is noteworthy only for its Chromecast.

Be wary of buying rooted/jaibroken Mi boxes, not only will you not get any updates, there are cases of people bricking their boxes even after firmware reset beforehand to update firmware.
