i know the rated wattage for cheap amp mostly is bull sh1t..(cheap amp i mean below RM300 one)

but let say a 1200W 2ch cap ayam amp (we asume the real RMS is around 200W)

and a branded 200W RMS 2ch amp..

use it to power a same woofer..will it really sound diffrently?

What's the difference? The obvious would be the quality and also the grade of parts used inside the amplifier. And most cheaper amps are prone to break down after a year or two of usage. But as for expensive amps(which are of international credit, not as in "expensive cap ayam"), the parts used usually comes with certain grades and would last years. I've got amps that are more than 10 years old and they are STILL working flawlessly, i doubt you can say the same for cheapo amps. wink.gif

As to whether does it sound different or not, this is VERY much debatable,

there is few classes of amps.. Class A amps and Class D amps circuit design are more popular.

basically those cheap amps are not actually classified in these catagories. they are using amplifier chips only... i've dismantled a so called 400W PMPO chicken brand amp that costs RM100. the chipset they use cannot even pump more than 5W RMS

my friend got a so called made in USA amp that he uses to blast 2x10" also made in usa sub woofer. the rated power was about 1200W PMPO... it work flawlessly. but once i put an 8" sumo polaris dual coil woofer replacing the 2x10" woofer, the amp cut off in less than 1 hour play. FYI the sumo polaris is only 60W RMS per coil. so dual coil is only 120W RMS with 700WPMPO.

got him a second hand audiostream amp for about RM600 and it played flawlessly.

expensive amps have proper circuit design and better quality components. Class A amps is normally used for woofers, while class D amps which are much more expensive and harder to produce is for the sound quality.

class A for woofers?
r u joking or wat
class a is so well known of power loss... and their low power rating
how on earth they can power up a normal sub?

class D on the other hand is normally for woofers...
bcos of its power efficiency
they're not expensive to produce nor cheap...

lmao

class D chip are more ex than class A transistor..but class A transistor need many to work but class D only need a few.....

if compare the chip, class D ex, class A cheap...
if compare overall, class A ex, class D cheap

cheap amps vs expensive amps is just like cheap psu vs expensive psu

cheap amps are usually lighter than expensive amps

sound wise is hard to tell if both are capable of producing the same quality output... but expensive amps usually have better durability since they have better components.

it's like iCute psu vs Silverstone psu... think about it.

dont agreed with you..

cheap amp...sound quality is terrible...for bass purpose it is ok but for vocal....obsolutely no

expansive amp... depends...sometime the price has been mark up by the shop heavily...so must survey before buying it

cheap amps will sound terrible if they were not able to produce the right power output at a certain volume level.... which is 80% of the time is true. however there are some people who do not blast their speakers all the time so quality wise is hard to say at lower volumes.

I guess cheap amps are only for beginners perhaps? People like me couldn't really differentiate quality sounds and average sounds. As I just enter ICE world, still need time before I could tell what makes good sound.

So far my 'cheap' amp (Oxygen) produces good bass for my subwoofer ler

Component set meaning the entire speaker system right? Then maybe the "chap ayam" can be a bit underpowered...

My Brothers' amp is currently connected to just my rear speakers... So far its doing well, maybe because the unit is just being used to power one item... As for woofer, its obviously better to go for the more high-end amps, for the sound quality right?

Definitely you cannot be serious about cheap amps being lighter than expensive amps.

There are so many china and korean made amps that are purposely made heavy to impress the gullible audience. However, in actual fact the heavy plate or chassis is not an indication of the quality of the components used and sound quality of the amplifier.

I do however agree with you that expensive amp are mostly made more durable and robust.
