I am also waiting for the Aqara 3-gang Zigbee switches.
I'm wary of using WiFi based switches. There is just too much opportunity for things to go wrong (DHCP issue, hacking, etc.)

In terms of wireless, repeaters may help, but if there's a lot of interference (especially WiFi channel interference from other APs) nothing will make it 100% reliable.

Edit: If you're using 433 MHz Sonoff, then it should be reliable since there's no other interference under normal circumstances. Only thing is that I haven't found any HomeKit integration support so I'm also not keen on investing in that technology.

Testing Zigbee Tuya Smart switches, no neutral. Very easy to pair, so far so good.
*
also much cheaper too, since you are testing it, does it support homekit like how aqara does it? meaning not needing homebridge
i never quite fond of xiaomi server in CN due to respond time, but having all the switch expose to homekit its quite instantaneous

now just waiting for the aqara g2h, had de imilab ec2 not quite my liking

I mean buy the switch from Aqara malaysia then sync with my hub with China region. The reason i ask so cos i saw the reply from seller it can't works.  sweat.gif
*
as far as i know, the switch and sensors are not regional specific
well even aqara MY on FB also giving incorrect info on d1 w.r.t. homekit connection. the d1 3gang are not homekit compatible yet, but they mention connect via home kit. similar with google home

The Aqara wall switch D1 should be compatible with home kit via Aqara Hub, because these wall switches are zigbee protocol, it cannot be directly added as homekit accessory, just like other aqara sensors, must go through Aqara Hub.
*
yes..it can be added to both the aqara hub. it can also be added to the xiaomi multimode hub as its also zigbee 3 certified (which i'm using). only thing means this is CN only product which is then latency issue

Aqara hub does not need to be in china region to add sensors that are made for China, my Aqara hub is in other regions and there is no latency issue at all.

i'm using the xiaomi multimode hub..not aqara actually..that product is not available out of CN (yet)
m using it cos it is USB powered rather then plug

currently i have 1 Xiaomi Light bulb, it works just fine with Region = Malaysia.

if i install Aqara Switchs do i need to change the region = China?

if the item you want is in MY server, you dont need to change. Cos i wan to use that hub, which is not available in MY.
Same issue with the aqara d1 3gang, not homekit available yet. i had the 2gang as separate tiles

you can use either a smart switch or a relay.

Hi all sifu, I have something in my mind to setup in my new house, but this might be still a simple setup but might be expanding in future. Currently what i am planning is to have a smart ceiling light specifically the xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light below. This will be installed mostly on all room and also living room.

So my question is, is there any smart controller that is touch screen that I can put like on the bedside table (dont want to use smartphone because i am thinking for guest to use in guest room as well). Or is it that google nest hub is one of the choice. If yes, is there any other device that I can use that is cheap that I can put/install in every room. The intention is to make the controller intuitive for guest to use.

I am thinking of smart switch, but then just wanna go a step further to look more high tech in the room to have the touchscreen control on bedside table.Β  tongue.gifΒ  tongue.gif
If google nest hub is one of the choice, what is other device that can achieve what i want to do.

Thanks
*
just one thing i guess if you still have traditional switch, you need to have it switch on all the time. If accidentally switch off (common habit while exiting room), no touch based screen/smart speaker/phone will be able to turn it on until the switch is power back up.

u can remove the switch and have it power on all the time but there will not be mechanical fallback if network busy; otherwise install the rebound switch.

i personally use smart switch to avoid this problem

So this switch can work like traditional switch but at the same time keep the light always on right?? This is interesting too.. thanks.. πŸ˜„
*
i had no experience using the rebound switch, but i suppose yes. Cos i assume having smart light is the same as smart bulb, which need to NOT have the switch being in off state
however i think having smart light combine with rebound switch provide better control in large room where one can on all 4 unit when guest is in but only using 1 when own self at home only (assuming 4 units install in living room)

mine is similar to this, but stock pic lazy go take picture biggrin.gif tongue.gif

thanks, got it now..

how silly i am, can directly use the search option... faster and don't need to scroll all the way from top to bottom.

by the way, anyone have any idea why
Xiaomi Mijia Mi Smart Home Gateway 3 Bluetooth Mesh Hub Zigbee 3.0 Homekit Ver ZNDMWG03LM
https://shopee.com.my/product/18695082/3815507160

is not shown in the aqara app????
*
mijia is kind off mother app, it converge also all other partners to its app
aqara is one of those partner, thats why you see aqara in mijia..similar u can also add yeelight and etc to mijia

however those independent partner also have their own app, which was developed inhouse for better own control which may only add their own product. hence you dont see xiaomi hub in aqara, but the other way is possible

Is it something like that on the Aqara Switch?

This should be correct based on the picture, but the rear is not very clear.
Old type switch use short wire to connect live/hot wire but Aqara switch built this in. If you refer to the Old switch, this should be label L, with the short wires connect to it
The L1, L2 & L3 on Aqara usually correspond to 1/3, 2/3 & 3/3 on the old switch. At least that’s what I see from mine.
But of course already switch off main when changing, safety first

For xiaomi eco system, if the device requires you to be in china region, I will try to avoid it, the reason is simple, network connection to china is not really consistent and fast, sometime you can get up to 10 seconds delay, imagine the motion sensor detects your motion, and then lights only turn on after 10 seconds  doh.gif  yawn.gif
*
HomeKit is fast enough to as its local, automation can be set on iPad/appletv
Relatively cheap for HomeKit item n no tinkle needed with HomeBridge/HomeAssistant
Actually is main Aqara and yeelight built device.

Hmmm anyone facing this issue:
Mi Home + GH for Yeelights  YLDP04YL. Server is set to China.
Problem is colour does not match e.g I set to white for GH, but turns yellow

Morning ok, now night time become gila. I can use Mi Home to get desired colour. Only GH nia suddenly out of sync the colour.
*
nope, never had that issue but i'm controlling it from HomeKit, not GH
however more so frequent is server not responding issue, though infrequent also

and it seems to happen to YLDP04YL more frequent too, not so much on YLDP06YL (old version colour light bulb)

Hi guys,

I will be having a new house by end of this year and I was planning to use either Xiaomi or Aqara to work as security system (door, window, vibration sensor etc) instead of standard alarm (Paradox, Blugard etc) as it can be a base for me to build on the automation.

Did anyone of you also use the said system (Xiaomi or Aqara) for house as security? Is it sufficient to replace your normal security alarm system since some alarm system also utilize wireless sensor but at a 4x price of Xiaomi.
*
I’m using imilab ec2 (to be replace with g2h as not HomeKit supported) with the usual hub/alarm + sensor
I would suppose region of server play a big role due to latency, I’m using MY server notifications seems to be on time when night vision trigger by the imilab
I guess main criteria still how big is the expectation of the security function serve which does affect the budget

Well, I stayed in high rise all my life and will move to landed property soon with only my partner and my furkid plus I am a little OCD regarding security so I was completating on which should be better.

Expectation is not that big considering the budget to get a Xiaomi/Aqara security system running is so much cheaper. Plus I have grills installed and hired an outsource security to do rounds at night so I should be safe, hopefully.

I just couldnt justify on paying that much on security system after I got a quotation(around 2.5k for double storey) earlier. Door sensor? Xiaomi have. Vibration sensor? Xiaomi have. Motion sensor? Xiaomi have. Siren? Xiaomi have. The only thing Xiaomi dont have is the security alarm sticker to stick at my porch lol. Anyway, I guess I will take the jump and go with Xiaomi security system then.

By and by, how's the performance for the imilab ec2?
*
two things related to such security cam, you have the one that is always on as it is wired power, they can be connecting to the storage via wired/wireless. the issue is then laying the cables needed
or you can have one that runs on battery and wireless, so it can be mounted almost anywhere. downside is it is not continuous recording. recording only happens when motion is detected or manually triggered, this is to save battery.

so far imilab ec2 performs as per what i expected, battery charges is lower then advertised but it is because i set it to trigger a longer recording then it original was.but its only like few days difference. its rated IP66, but have never gone through that heavy rain as i put it "indoor"/porch

QUOTE(Corrupted Spirits @ May 29 2020, 12:31 AM)
Yeah, the siren from the hub might not be loud enough. Maybe I will put few sirens like this:
https://shopee.com.my/product/68463208/4710699357?smtt=0.0.9
And try to make it if hub alarm ring then other siren ring? Workable?πŸ€”
*
why need siren, use bluetooth speaker tongue.gif biggrin.gif
https://www.imore.com/how-use-homepod-homekit-alarm
but of course there will be users prefer to have it separate, and i only know to set in homekit as i predominantly uses it

Bluetooth speaker is another way to go but my intention is to display the siren at outdoor to deter potential thief from aiming my house haha. I got a quotation from Bluguard just now and the whole alarm system will cost me 3k πŸ™„

Anyway, I googled around and found a solution for siren instead of just using the gateway. Apparently people are connecting 3rd party siren to Xiaomi smart plug and set it if the gateway alarm rang, switch on smart plug. This will automatically make the 3rd party siren rang as well. Then they also link a wireless switch with the gateway to make it into an alarm remote control. I have checked on the Mi app and apparently Malaysia region support xiaomi smart plug and wireless switch.

So now waiting for Paradox alarm system quotation and if it's more than 2k, high chance that I might just go for the Xiaomi route.
*
if u wan as deterrent, any dummy will do cos if it deter then it will not sound anyway
but i suppose a complete one should be the case

as for using motion sensor as trigger like what Kiding mention this is where most of the Xiaomi AI IP cams come in i would say

Unfortunately I do not use Apple products πŸ˜…. Or does purchasing an iPad will do the trick ?

I do have a dog thou and my motion sensor will be mostly in the roof only. Not planning to put any motion sensor in the house.

The door suggestion is a good idea that I did not think of. Might have a look and see which lock is compatible with xiaomi Malaysia region.
A siren that can sound will be probably be better πŸ˜€ Just in case the thief decided to give it a go then at least there is sound that might make the thief to hesitate to continue his work.

The more I read the more I realised that we can do so much thing with automation nowadays.
*
i think for homekit compatibility better dont think so much if you r not in the ecosystem cos u cannot migrate it out like google home or alexa as homekit is apple only
u can still use xiaomi as the ecosystem or even more adventurous there is a also thing that built on RaspPi

its best to get an idea in totality what you wan to built and start from there
my journey is i know i want to use homekit as the base and mainly to have lights control + CCTV, best if utilize native accredited device
