I am also waiting for the Aqara 3-gang Zigbee switches.
I'm wary of using WiFi based switches. There is just too much opportunity for things to go wrong (DHCP issue, hacking, etc.)

In terms of wireless, repeaters may help, but if there's a lot of interference (especially WiFi channel interference from other APs) nothing will make it 100% reliable.

Edit: If you're using 433 MHz Sonoff, then it should be reliable since there's no other interference under normal circumstances. Only thing is that I haven't found any HomeKit integration support so I'm also not keen on investing in that technology.

Testing Zigbee Tuya Smart switches, no neutral. Very easy to pair, so far so good.

I mean buy the switch from Aqara malaysia then sync with my hub with China region. The reason i ask so cos i saw the reply from seller it can't works. 

The Aqara wall switch D1 should be compatible with home kit via Aqara Hub, because these wall switches are zigbee protocol, it cannot be directly added as homekit accessory, just like other aqara sensors, must go through Aqara Hub.

Aqara hub does not need to be in china region to add sensors that are made for China, my Aqara hub is in other regions and there is no latency issue at all.

before i jump into Xiaomi bandwagon, would like to check if i need to change Region to China?
currently i have 1 Xiaomi Light bulb, it works just fine with Region = Malaysia.

if i install Aqara Switchs do i need to change the region = China?

Hi all sifu, I have something in my mind to setup in my new house, but this might be still a simple setup but might be expanding in future. Currently what i am planning is to have a smart ceiling light specifically the xiaomi Yeelight ceiling light below. This will be installed mostly on all room and also living room.



So my question is, is there any smart controller that is touch screen that I can put like on the bedside table (dont want to use smartphone because i am thinking for guest to use in guest room as well). Or is it that google nest hub is one of the choice. If yes, is there any other device that I can use that is cheap that I can put/install in every room. The intention is to make the controller intuitive for guest to use.

I am thinking of smart switch, but then just wanna go a step further to look more high tech in the room to have the touchscreen control on bedside table.   
If google nest hub is one of the choice, what is other device that can achieve what i want to do.

For xiaomi eco system, if the device requires you to be in china region, I will try to avoid it, the reason is simple, network connection to china is not really consistent and fast, sometime you can get up to 10 seconds delay, imagine the motion sensor detects your motion, and then lights only turn on after 10 seconds   

Hmmm anyone facing this issue:
Mi Home + GH for Yeelights  YLDP04YL. Server is set to China.
Problem is colour does not match e.g I set to white for GH, but turns yellow

I will be having a new house by end of this year and I was planning to use either Xiaomi or Aqara to work as security system (door, window, vibration sensor etc) instead of standard alarm (Paradox, Blugard etc) as it can be a base for me to build on the automation.

Did anyone of you also use the said system (Xiaomi or Aqara) for house as security? Is it sufficient to replace your normal security alarm system since some alarm system also utilize wireless sensor but at a 4x price of Xiaomi.

Well, I stayed in high rise all my life and will move to landed property soon with only my partner and my furkid plus I am a little OCD regarding security so I was completating on which should be better.

Expectation is not that big considering the budget to get a Xiaomi/Aqara security system running is so much cheaper. Plus I have grills installed and hired an outsource security to do rounds at night so I should be safe, hopefully.

I just couldnt justify on paying that much on security system after I got a quotation(around 2.5k for double storey) earlier. Door sensor? Xiaomi have. Vibration sensor? Xiaomi have. Motion sensor? Xiaomi have. Siren? Xiaomi have. The only thing Xiaomi dont have is the security alarm sticker to stick at my porch lol. Anyway, I guess I will take the jump and go with Xiaomi security system then.

By and by, how's the performance for the imilab ec2?

Yeah, the siren from the hub might not be loud enough. Maybe I will put few sirens like this:

my house using roller blind. thinking there is any smart roller blind motor can be use on existing manual roller blind?

Bluetooth speaker is another way to go but my intention is to display the siren at outdoor to deter potential thief from aiming my house haha. I got a quotation from Bluguard just now and the whole alarm system will cost me 3k 🙄

Anyway, I googled around and found a solution for siren instead of just using the gateway. Apparently people are connecting 3rd party siren to Xiaomi smart plug and set it if the gateway alarm rang, switch on smart plug. This will automatically make the 3rd party siren rang as well. Then they also link a wireless switch with the gateway to make it into an alarm remote control. I have checked on the Mi app and apparently Malaysia region support xiaomi smart plug and wireless switch.

So now waiting for Paradox alarm system quotation and if it's more than 2k, high chance that I might just go for the Xiaomi route.

Unfortunately I do not use Apple products 😅. Or does purchasing an iPad will do the trick ?

I do have a dog thou and my motion sensor will be mostly in the roof only. Not planning to put any motion sensor in the house.

The door suggestion is a good idea that I did not think of. Might have a look and see which lock is compatible with xiaomi Malaysia region.
A siren that can sound will be probably be better 😀 Just in case the thief decided to give it a go then at least there is sound that might make the thief to hesitate to continue his work.

The more I read the more I realised that we can do so much thing with automation nowadays.
