The capacitor is connected between the L and N at the location where your load is (i.e. at lamp location for example). It is to provide power to the switch electronics since in off position, there suppose to be no power to the switch.

I thought it is provided with the switch? So, depends on switch brand I suppose, though probably not much different.

Most of the time the switch just work because of voltage leakage in house wiring. So, sometimes the switch just cannot work. That is why the capacitor is provided.

The voltage rating would be at least 400V but not sure about the capacitor value. Probably around 0.47uF to 1uF? Anyone remember on top of one's head?

Don't think i will automate those now...only considering lights.  Aircond i could use Broadlink RM pro to turn it on if i want to...

Prefer socket type, like Sonoff S31, but UK plug, would like to monitor refrigerator power consumption.

my aqara wall switches installation came to a halt
one of my ceiling lights is connected to some backup Battery/Gen set
For some reason, when I connect my Aqara switch to it, it trips the breaker 

here is the original switch picture - notice the 3 red wires? that is the one 
the only way I can think of is have an electrician rewire those red wires to another breaker, remove them from the backup circuit.

todays installation at another room went without a hitch except that somehow it didnt fit the hole very well. strange that no big chunks of plaster had broken off but dunno why now there is a big gap. Sigh, I need to patch it later.

This Aqara unit was the one tripping yesterday. So its not the Aqara problem but my wiring

this is really weird.

1. proceed the install the newly arrived switches
2. put in just Live red wire and L1 to to Red wired lamp = okay didnt trip
3. put in L2 to Yellow wired lamp = trips

The other day I put in Yellow side on its own, it didnt trip
Original Switch - 2 Gang Switch. One Red Live One Yellow Live (different circuits)
Aqara Switch - has only 1 input for Live so I can only use either Red or Yellow
Red goes to a backup service in case of no electricity
Red ELCB tripping.

What should I try now? 

This is what i mean very earlier post. Even u hv aircon switch beside ur light switch, does not mean the neutral wire can straight forward take from there. Light & aircon circuit if different phase at DB box will cause the RCCB to trip, coz detected as leak current. I abdondon neutral line & use single live wire RF wall switch until it fail only may consider aqara. Another way is rewire ur DB box but dont DIY & get electrocuted

So the switch itself is remote device and the receiver is located at the lighting point? This way no need to worry about the N wire then 

Oh, nice. I like such design where whole panel is the rocking switch. Clean and neatly. That's why I like to use Schneider Pieno series.
