is there any smart plug where i can interrogate / control it directly via IP address instead of downloading a dedicated app on my phone?
i don't really like to use app because things can get obsolete if the app doesn't exist on google play store or apple store in the future.

Don't think it is safe using that method.
If you are scared the app became obsolete, can flash the plug with open source firmware like Tasmota and connect it through Home Assistant, Alexa, Node Red etc.
Can check the Tasmota smart home integration from here

If not safe, all networking devices in the world are not safe.
Do the cheap smart plugs in shopee support flashing with custom firmware? Any budget recommendations?

Anyway, if specs is correct, Tuya is cheaper and better since rated 16A and also come with energy monitoring function. I think it was being offer as low as RM20 during online sales before MCO. Just look around Shopee for better price. Just different APP does almost same thing.

I know. Just lazy to type.
The cheapest one is 10A only without monitoring. It's big enough for general use, right?

Well if you get smart switches, you can make your fans. lights etc smart. And like above, you can make your autogate (if you have one) smart too.

Right now i have some smart water features, smart water heater, multiple smart switches that have some sort of automation,  multiple IR blasters that make devices like my fan AC and tv etc smart ish, right now just planning to make the gates smart.

Not familiar with Tuya but I had done many with Sonoff/ewelink including humidifier, fish feeder, ip cam, security alarm. In fact, u can make any appliances that use tactile switch smart.

I'm referring to products that support smartlife app right from the start. It seems most usages are just smart power switches integration which act as middle men.

In the app, there are options for adding air con, lighting, cctv, alarm, gas detector. Any example of these products (kindly state the make and model if you know) that I can scan/add using the app?

Easiest things that I plan to do:
- cooking gas detector that trigger my phone (with the smartlife app) to sound
- rgb lighting strip with color control on the app
- aircon control with the app. I have an old (not smart) panasonic aircon.

I'm looking for an infrared to wifi/network device. My ceiling fan is a typical KDK type with basic remote. I want to control it with Android. From my past experience, it can only control on-off. No control of the fan speed which I need most. Can modern devices do that now?

I'm currently using the Smart Life app with my smart switch. Hoping to expand the devices in this eco system.

It should because if it is not on their preset list of whatever they have on their platform, you should be able to train the thing with your commands.

not really.
although my honor phone has IR blaster (with learning mode), i can never get it to pick up the signal from my KDK remote.

what's the difference between these 2 switches? I only see size difference. but big difference in price.

UPDATE: I think I see a difference. the expensive one has 433MHz + wifi while the cheap one has wifi only. is that it?
