QUOTE(adamw @ Feb 27 2022, 09:35 PM) If those switches is just directly below the switchbox then just get a qualify electrician to pull a neutral to all of them. No need worry how long the no neutral switches can last anymore. Can you read chinese? Found a smart sensor that is suitable but all the details in chinese, me banana! The one you need to mount on ceiling?

QUOTE(adamw @ Mar 1 2022, 04:05 PM) Other than mount to ceiling, can place on wall side? Good for room coverage? Thinking of tapping to live/neutral for power outlet and use spacer There’s replacing ceiling lamp which I’m not sure yet and punching a hole, add some more wiring seems like a lot of work From other people who tried they say it does make pretty good presence detector when not moving This post has been edited by alucard89: Mar 4 2022, 01:32 PM

QUOTE(Jasonjinct @ Mar 5 2022, 10:55 AM) Hi, does anyone built their own universal zigbee hub like Conbee/Raspbee on Raspberry Pi instead of buying different aftermarket hub (Aqara, Xiaomi, etc) to pair Zigbee devices from different brands together? Cheaper if just get the sonoff zigbee 3.0, just need update latest firmware from time to time for more device compatibility. Like the moes remote button that was unsupported last year

QUOTE(Jared99 @ Mar 6 2022, 11:56 AM) Hi. I would like to know if simon i7 smart switch can connect to any zigbee compatible hub that certified by apple homekit so that i can use them in apple homekit platform. Bcoz the original simon switch hub does not support apple homekit. Usually those other hubs are proprietary The sure way to get them integrated to homekit is pair with zigbee hub like sonoff usb 3.0 using zigbee2mqtt in homeassistant with homebridge This post has been edited by alucard89: Mar 6 2022, 12:20 PM

QUOTE(Jared99 @ Mar 6 2022, 01:47 PM) so you mean simon smart switches can connect to sonoff or any zigbee hub others than their own smart gateway ? These branded hubs (Tuya, Sonoff, Linkind, Hue, Smart things, etc) only support a limited selection of devices, often only their own brand. Some people have successfully added tuya to sonoff and back If you use homeassistant, no need to have doubt since it’s universal (assuming zigbee support is added)

QUOTE(ntw @ Mar 10 2022, 05:33 PM) hi all, been testing Home Assistant automation for a week now. I realize the automation sometimes are not triggered, for example: turn on the lights & fan when the door sensor is open; turn off when motion sensor detected no motion for 5min; but a few times I noticed the devices doesn't get triggered. Is there a way for me to check what went wrong? More info about my setup, using moes zigbee switches, tuya door sensor on second floor, zigbee gateway in ground floor I wonder if this has something to do with zigbee signal coverage Can you check lqi for the door sensor

QUOTE(ntw @ Mar 14 2022, 12:02 PM) yep, its clear that the moes no-neutral switches are zigbee end devices, they do not support repeater function. using the zha integration for devices/ sensors on first floor and tuya gateway on ground floor. might just order another sonoff stick to act as repeater on the ground floor. Technically they still can act as repeater, if you connect neutral wire to it. There is one exception, a few post back, someone already shared touch switch zigbee that still acts as repeater even though not hooked up to neutral

QUOTE(Fubar20 @ Mar 14 2022, 02:24 PM) Correct term should be router and not repeater. And yes, Zigbee switch can be a router even without neutral connection. Got other ones other than the one shared before this? Preferably click switch type

QUOTE(Zot @ Mar 15 2022, 08:48 AM) I get confused here. Why N has anything to do with zigbee being a router or repeater in first place. The connection is wireless. Having N connection or not only related to how the zigbee device is powered. That’s from my observation la The moes wall switches i got no need neutral or capacitor to function, just connect live wire. No light flickering but doesn’t act as router (in z2m map) Got 2 moes wall switches connect with neutral, all act as router

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 17 2022, 08:52 AM) Thanks. I am guessing sensors usually need a gateway as they do not have WiFi chips inside due to the size. What other sensors do you recommend for a smart home? I will be getting a robot vacuum and some smart switches + WiFi plugs in the future. Oh that's really bad. You charge the device with a powerbank or something? The door sensors you can modify as occupancy sensor for chairs/couch also. Can use to keep light/fan on when someone just sitting down in a room https://community.home-assistant.io/t/diy-z...y-sensor/239517There’s this high precision motion sensor, but need to mount on ceiling, still cheaper than the aqara fp1 https://s.lazada.com.my/s.epkrgAlso light sensor, and smoke sensors

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 17 2022, 11:58 AM) Thanks. Yeah I'm also planning to get a smoke sensor (Xiaomi-Honeywell) together with Xiaomi IP 360 camera: https://shopee.com.my/-ENGLISH-Xiaomi-Mijia...f2-11182cdd3a79Just in case there's smoke, I should get a notification on my phone and will use the IP camera to look around But at the same time I am concerned with the risk of the IP Camera being hacked Alternative is using separate nvr software like motioneye, shinobi, frigate You could just block the internet access to those ip camera, but then you’re not getting any notification Xiaomi cameras requires you to use their cloud service, the firmware a bit locked down and they don’t really offer additional settings for rtsp etc like other vendors (foscam, dahua, hikvision). Unless you flash custom firmware if the ip camera model is supported

QUOTE(XweienX @ Mar 21 2022, 11:03 AM) I think one thing to consider thoroughly is the automations part. Many people think of automation too simply because they only think of "what they want" and not "what could happen". A few examples I can think of after reading your plans: - If you and your partner/family staying in the same place, and one person leave but others stay at home in the living room watching TV, will everything auto off? - If you just go out and throw rubbish, do you want everything to turn off when you go out then turn on again when you come back in? Or just stay on? And just my personal preferences, but I think watching YouTube videos easier to digest than reading about home automation. There are tons of them. True, also share the info app with your spouses/family how to setup and configure stuff Someone on reddit asking around how his dad (also smart home enthusiast) manage his automation (esphome, homeassistant) because his dad died recently

Chip shortage is no joke Anyway, there’s other board you can consider like Orange pi, banana pi, odroid

QUOTE(akira de aimbuster @ Mar 27 2022, 04:38 PM) Hi guys, newcomer to smart home setup here I have a doubt: Currently I have a 3 gang normal switch which don't have any neutral line. 1 button is controlling ceiling fan, and another 2 buttons are controling lighting. Since it involves ceiling fan, I prefer to go for smart switch with neutral line. May I know whether can I buy Aqara smart switch (with neutral), and then connect the neutral line to the aircon's neutral line? Yes, correct Get the switches that requires capacitor if you don’t plan to extend neutral wire to existing switches

Anyone here using smart fan controller that has more than 3 speed control? Also, if you guys are using sonoff ifan03. Speed 1 & 2 works normally? Seems like most complaint i see speed 1 is too slow & speed 2 is too fast Trying to replace the capacitor like this aussie fella did but the solders are a bit too thick to remove https://www.breznet.com/sonoff-ifan03-home-assistant/

QUOTE(cdspins @ Mar 24 2022, 04:51 PM) Hmm... my battery last more than 6 months.... the scale only turns on when someone stands on it. and I use it once daily. Basically it does not consume much power. I rarely measure mine, maybe like once a week, starting to wonder if mine got defect that cause some battery drain

QUOTE(Kiding @ Mar 28 2022, 12:36 PM) I'm using Xiaomi Smart Fans, Hoemkit and Home Assistance can control the speed directly. More towards smart-ing existing ceiling fans. Seems like most sold here are 3 speed control sonoff ifan03
