I started using Tuya Zigbee smart plugs (model detected by Z2M is BSD29_1, I believe its just another variant of the TS011F) to monitor the power consumption of my pc and server. However I noticed that the Energy entity of these smart plugs are not very reliable, as in the value will stop updating until I unplug then reinsert into the power socket.

user posted image

I can still turn on/off the LED on the smart plug via Home Assistant and its pretty responsive, just that the Energy value is not updating. Is there any changes I can do to make the value update reliably? Or should I invest in other replacement?
*
When it comes to power monitors, go for wifi. The Tuya Zigbee ones often just stop working because of the voltage spiked to 250V

Personally would go for Shelly 1 Plus PM, i have 5 of them, wish i got more during black friday.

Actively trying to lower power consumption of this one PC LOL

multiple sensors using I2C bus, but no points to discuss it now as it still at preliminary stage.

I'm currently in pinch and caught off guard, normally my orders took 3weeks for delivery.
now it arrived in a week. I'm not sure I should be happy or sad...

I still havent buy my buck converter and soldering kits.
to step down 12/24v to 5v, is LM2596 the best? XL series?
and can recommended soldering kits + hot gun?
*
I am just using whatever shopee cheap soldering iron and glue gun, i do want to get a proper soldering station but i dont often need to solder hence why i havent bothered LOL

The buck converter that is fine, but if your Amp rating is lower you can go for MP2307 and MP2315

I wonder how you guys have fully made use of your smart home system.

Do you program your smart home to do all the automation for you?

Can you share your most satisfying upgrade, and what is your next project or wish list?
*
Just need to go down the Home Assistant rabbit hole and you will see the light.

Most satisfying probably doorbell sensor with old dumb doorbell, was using Aqara contact sensor modified to detect

Also dummy HomeKit TV with input list to change channels, basically anything that is non official is pretty satisfying when it works LOL

Anyone use this Smartrul IR blaster? Does it work with Panasonic air cond and KDK fan?

It should because if it is not on their preset list of whatever they have on their platform, you should be able to train the thing with your commands.

I just want to share here my autogate in the dashboard with the HA owner, where my CCTV is running on the RTSP/ONVIF protocol and facing my autogate. The picture will refresh every 10 seconds, and when you click on it, it will load another window for the live stream. There are two auto-gate buttons below it. One comes with an alarm arm function, while the other has a disarm function. The icon within the button reflects the current gate status, such as gate open or closed and autogate motor running or stopped.

To open or close the autogate, users need to double-click instead of single-clicking these buttons to prevent any accidental opening or closing of the gate when scrolling the screen.

When the autogate is opened, it will trigger one of the hall lights to turn on until the autogate is closed. This is a great alert both day and night when all the curtains are closed and people inside the house can see who is returning home and offer a helping hand to carry shopping bags, etc. Also to alert people inside the house that the autogate was opened and not closed for prolonged time.

When the gate is opened at night, it will trigger all the car porch lights and fan to turn ON and remind ON until the motion sensor does not detect any movement in the car porch area.

When the autogate is opened at night for more than a preset time (e.g., 15 minutes), it will automatically close the gate, and a WhatsApp message will be sent to the owner.

The CCTV picture helps the owner see anyone in front of the autogate, like a food or parcel delivery rider, before opening the gate from a distance and allowing them to drive straight into the car porch without waiting for the slow-moving autogate to fully open after reaching the front gate.

All the programming is on Node-RED.

How you sending to Whatsapp? I have been using Telegram bot all this while

Their Data?

My Data??

Define My?
and also define data
1. " i am feeling abit exhausted today, Jarvis "

2. Pre-config Function Calling for GPT ( Aircond, music player, android smart TV, Lightning )

3. FYI. OpenAI API DO NOT OFFER connection directly to your home devices.

4. it only generate TEXT.

5. you still need a middleware to convert TEXT/Json from GPT, into actual command to your home devices.
so, in the end, What OpenAI received is a random person, saying he is exhausted.
*
It doesnt matter if it doesnt have direct connection to your smart home, you are giving them your habitual data owh this person comes in this time, this place is hot hence why AC is turned on this time blah blah. Whatever larh its not a big deal but you were saying in a condescending manner that owh smart home boring ...AI and voice is supposedly king .... its your preference but for me i keep voice interactions to a minimum.

You mean you are using Nabu Casa services, but you cannot view your camera remotely? but locally is fine?

I just want to check how the other HA owner views or controls their HA remotely.
*
I can view them remotely, its just not like fast. Because i was using a Hikvision NVR and remotely viewing it was pretty quick (port forwarded) through IVMS app, Nabu Casa through generic RTSP or Frigate is slower, not quick enough for me to let my other family members use it. I do have that feed from Frigate (go2rtc) to Homekit through Scrypted, and that is fine but theirs is a 10s snapshot refresh if you dont click on the camera.

Right now i am using this not so perfect but decent unifi cam proxy which allows me to use non unifi cameras with unifi protect, all the detection and what not is done by frigate. Scrypted has an NVR solution which has adaptive bitrate but if i want to pay for something, i rather a big one time lifetime fee than subscription based.

Unfortunately no one solution is perfect yet at least for my use case so have to use a few LOL

All of my SMATRUL Tuya Smart WIFI switch already flashed to Tasmota and I am very happy with their performance.

Similarly, for unbranded Smart Plug also flashed to Tasmota.  Thumb up to the Tasmota developer.

However, I have this "branded" smart plug named CrabTek using different chip than ESP-02S (ESP8285) and their daughter board is totally different from ESP-02S and I cannot change the chip to ESP-02S.  I have no choice but to stick on the Tuya ecosystem.

If you happened to come across this new Tuya thing other than Tuya Local or Local Tuya, do share with me the link, and I will then explore it.
For time being, I am satisfied with the Local Tuya with some twist on the router.  These smart devices connected to the Local Tuya is stable and I am still monitoring its performance.

I think youtube videos might explain it better than i can, as i dont know what is your smart home setup like. If your question is does sensibo IR blaster thing work, yes it works, i am just saying that broadlink ones are like fraction of the price.

i'm on a full tuya system, fully stock no mods eg: HA etc. so I wanted something that just works out of the box

does the broadlink IR blaster replicate the aircond stock remote fully and able to control the aircond temp as well instead of just on / off?
*
In that case look for a tuya one instead? Nobody is going to be able to tell you if your exact models are supported but i am sure you can ask it to "learn", but you will have to look at all of their websites.
