Anyone using presence sensors?
*

I’m using aqara fp2 presence sensor, expensive but accurate and sensitive, can configure to detect multiple zones.

Recently add new features to monitor sleep, even can monitor sleep heart rate, but require to install above your bed.

Can still discern different target if too close to each other? Like if someone sit next to you while watching tv

Also, the sleep monitoring feature can detect multiple target?
*
I live alone so don’t know fp2 can tell there are two sitting closely
Didn’t try sleep mode because it needs to place it above the bed and it will only monitor sleep and no more presence detection.

Does fan mess with anything? I heard loads of these mmwave stuff are affected by that
*
So far it doesn’t mess up with my two fans in living room.

I see, so sleep monitoring disables the presence detection. That's probably something they need to fix

You put the fans in exclusion zone?
*
Actually it is not the bug, it is detection modes, currently three modes: zone detection, falling detection and sleep detection

You can only select one of the mode, so I need to use multiple zone for presence detection, hence use zone detection

However, global presence detection available for all modes, it only reports presence status as long as the sensor detect you, but cannot tell which zone you are.

Yes, one of the fans is in set as interference source

QUOTE(Oltromen Ripot @ Nov 8 2023, 07:34 PM)
correct.

consumer routers do support this.
but there is limit to the number of entries.

anyway, i was initially relating how i eventually solved the problem of my wifi-based HA devices keep falling offline.
partitioning by loads of SSIDs AND shortening the dhcp lease.
loads of SSIDs alone does not solve it.

for small number of wifi HA devices, maybe it's not apparent enough as you get to recycle IP even on long lease.
*
That’s the reason I don’t like WiFi iot devices

I don’t have such connection issue using zigbee

You can also go full tuya. Aqara devices are about twice more expensive but they can connect to matter and homekit
*
quality wise, tuya quality is inconsistent.
Aqara has better quality and ease of use.

Thanks a lot, much cheaper than Aqara which cost RM200+ for each switch. Probably aqara intergration with homekit is better.

As a starter, should start with something cheap first.

So the thing I need to get are
Switches
Matter Hub
Apple TV/Pod

Should I draw a diagram for these  biggrin.gif
*
if you are non techie, better go Aqara for switches, hub, sensors, it will be much less headache for you in the long run.

Technical guy know how to troubleshoot tuya devices or flash it to ESP firmware, tuya device quality is not consistent as they are not from single manufacturer, when problem occurs, need some technical skills to fix it.

hardware version referred in the app is the firmware version. if your firmware is not 3.0.0, you need to upgrade it

Meaning as coordinator, the dongle won't work at all without raspberry pi and the likes, right? Don't want to use it as router/repeater though.
*
If you have 24 x 7 running X86/ARM server, then you can install zigbee2mqtt Linux software to manage sonoff dongle, if you have already have home assistant, you can either use ZHA or zigbee2mqtt to work with sonoff dongle which act as zigbee coordinator.

Tuya is the cloud service/system with many oems using it

You can check smatrul/moes shop on shopee

You can still integrate your ewelink devices & tuya devices with homeassistant
*
Correct, Tuya is a IoT platform, they have many non branded vendors work with the platform, therefore, tuya device quality is inconsistent, I have few Tuya devices, some work well, some don’t.

For quality product, get Aqara/Xiaomi/TP-Link, their quality is pretty consistent especially Aqara quality is top player.

Devices sold in taobao are china region and not able to support google home.

For aqara, from what i read in reddit, newer devices are starting to have regional lock. So be caution when buying.
*
Aqara devices regional lock has been implementing for few years, although you are still able to use it, the device response time could be suffer because device need to connect back to China.

Aqara if using Aqara app everything runs locally. Same with when integrate with matter. So no need connect to China.
*
not really, some of the automation runs in cloud.
I have aqara fp2 China version, the setup of detection zones is totally connected to China servers and setup time is terrible slow.

QUOTE(LostAndFound @ Jul 30 2024, 11:31 AM)
As I understand, POE requires either injector or the switch to support POE. But my (possibly outdated) understanding is also that POE has a slightly higher risk of non-standard components causing devices to fry/burn (because of the increased voltage supplied). If my entire network no POE then theoretically less risk for all the wired devices (but then would need power point for every camera).
Thanks this is helpful. I'm familiar with CCTV which support wifi, as I currently using cheap china device for that (unfortunately the data is cloud-based and calling home to China too, would prefer to move away from that). So for me is option 1 or option 2, I guess as long as aesthetics not an issue option 1 is the most flexible (plus can always be converted to POE later on if the wall socket is needed for something else). Though I think external camera exposed to some splashing from rain maybe POE is safer?
*
POE switch will perform handshake to device to determine whether it supports POE or not, if it is a non-POE device, it will not provide power to the device.

As long as you have good quality branded POE switch, you don’t really need to worry it.

POE camera is convenient because no need to lay power cable, no need to replace faulty power adapter especially power adapter is concealed in the ceiling, and most importantly, if the POE switch is powered by UPS, you have continue surveillance even power outage.

QUOTE(eagle7 @ Jul 30 2024, 02:52 PM)
Just share my experience with my recent purchase of a Tuya CCTV.

Reason for the Purchase:

1. My old Xiaomi CCTV installed at my car porch running on 2.4 GHz keeps on being disconnected or the signal unstable. When I check on the number of WiFi APs discovered outdoors compared to indoors, there are simply too many, and some more are using 40 MHz bandwidth for their channel.

2. I need CCTV that supports 5 GHz (low latency and less interference).

3. CCTV that supports the RTSP protocol can be viewed from HA or any app supporting the RTSP protocol.

The result is within my expectations, except the video quality is not as good as my other 2K FHD Xiaomi CCTV.

I don't mind buying expensive Xiaomi CCTV or quality products if they support 5GHz and the RTSP protocol; otherwise, I will be locked into their ecosystem and not easily integrated into the HA.

NOTE: Not all CCTV supports the RTSP protocol.
*
Get Dahua, IMOU, TP-link, all support rtsp, POE, ONVIF, very good low light picture, this is important if you want to use it for object/human detection such as Frigate

Frigate with Home Assistant is currently one of the best smart security home systems, it has replaced my old fashion home security system, it has much lesser false alarms, real time monitor and view your house anywhere on earth that have internet connectivity.
