BTW those that use z2m, how do you guys rename like individual switches on a multi gang switch?
*
Curious.. Why would you want that? Easier to search? Too many switches?
It doesn't matter since once the entity is associated with an automation, can rename the buttons in HA?
I only know how to change it when I create my own external converters.

Right now its device name lets say Sim Bedroom Switch 1 and Sim Bedroom Switch 2 (both 2 gang) the individual switches right now is switch.sim_bedroom_switch_1_left (and right) and the same for the second one as well. Just want it to be easier to distinguish in HA. I think if i just rename in HA, wont it mess with the mqtt?
*
Ahh.. I see. Shouldn't be a an issue... If got issue just revert back. Whole idea of HA is lots of trial and errors.
Also, maybe you should consider your naming conventions for your devices..simplify them. Acronyms.

Anyone here is controlling their led strip lights based on time of day? I have a question about that.

Say i wake up in the night to go toilet...sensor picked me up, sets the lights in toilet to 25% brightness. To do this does the led strip needs to be constantly powered? and if the light switch is a dumb rocker type...if already in off position, totally no light.

My method to solve this is too complicated. Smart switch -> zigbee dimmable driver (12/24V) -> led strip.

automation: Sensor detects, sets led strip brightness to 25%, sets smart switch to ON.

any better solution?

Your smart switch is zigbee or wifi?
If you can install custom firmware like tasmota/esphome, can set to decouple mode (detach button from relay and sends click action as triggers) keeping the driver always online
*
I have 1 zigbee aqara Z1 switch that supports decoupling. If it was not decoupled, the driver would be offline? Any other workaround to making this work without a smart switch?

I'm looking into esphome but still reading on info. Key is to make sure device has the right chip?

Then it's done, you just need to enable decouple mode on that switch then set automation for manual control (1 click to toggle on/off the led strip light).
Without a smart switch? Skip the switch and directly wire to the led driver or the old trick of locking the switch to always on and put warning labels so nobody messes with it  laugh.gif

As long as it's wifi version, esphome now supports beken chip (widely used by tuya now) so shouldn't be a problem like it used to be
*
Warning labels difficult... Too many ppl in the house. The switch must still be open to use. Old ppl nanti terus off.

Will explore esphome soon... Since now all my devices are focused on zigbee. You use alot of esphome?

I'm not sure if its similar to your use case, mine is magnetic rail led. Basically i skip using smart switch and just go for a standard non smart switch as the main power switch for the light. The on and off will be controlled by the driver / led itself. So the non smart switch is at constant on position basically. So far no issues. I only turn it off when im away for some period

For me, if your led strip / driver is already smart type, then its a bit redundant having a smart switch. Of course you can still use it, but it just adds another step in your automation
*
Yep... Same challenge. If just my wife and I OK lah. But many ppl in house. Difficult to avoid someone accidentally flick it.

I want to use the regular switch but the new aqara Z1.. Banyak premium feel ohhh... Haha

Regular switch I think Retouch looks great 🤣 I was using it but eventually swapped all to Aqara D1 which looks rather crap compared to Retouch.
*
You should get the new Z1. Looks and feels better. A few color options

Try openbeken if you wanna avoid coding stuff on esphome.
Can still set decouple mode there.

There’s also a new device group component for esphome.

https://github.com/Cossid/TasmotaDeviceGroupsForESPHome

With this you can link several devices together without automation or ha. Useful when you have esphome flashed switch + lights
*
Sounds good. Let me get one and experiment first.

There is even 4 gang, sweet. Is the back deep? Like deeper than D1?
*
Eh... Not sure. Never used a D1 before. But it fits into my regular old switch box. So that's that.

Does anyone here use smart toilets? Any recommended brands or models that is below 5k?

So far I have stumbled upon Sorento's smart toilets, but not sure how good it is...

I bought a smart toilet seat cover from Japan. Been there so many times I had to get one. Bought online and shipped here. About 1.5k with tax.
For this price, nothing comes close to anything you can get here in Malaysia. Challenge is...tak sama voltage. Need stepdown. But worth it

I just got my Google Nest Mini gen 2 few days ago. For the price i think its loud enough. Usually just set my volume to 60 - 70%.

Was looking at these mini smart speakers. But aiming for those ceiling ip speakers. Still can't find... Either too expensive or no generic ones. Guess little smart speakers will have to do.

Anyone here using Frigate? The config is so unnecessarily complicated FFS
*
I'm actually starting to look into it. Will be integrated with HA also. From initial guide review... Yes... Looks complicated. Any luck on your side getting it up? What's the roadblock you faced?

Are you planning on getting a tpu to go with it?

Yeah. I integrate with z2m. Apa pun boleh. But problem is it doesn't send any status. Just on off. Sometimes my machine auto off but the status in my HA still on.

Hi Smarties,

Wanna know if any of you integrate your smart door lock with HA? Am very interested in Aqara locks but can't integrate their zigbee models to Z2M.

Options? Can be wifi, Bluetooth etc.

Which aqara lock you got bro that can’t pair with z2m?
*
Don't have any yet. But doing some research. Limited old models only can fully integrate. New ones can't.

I was eyeing the Aqara D100, Philips 709-FVP or any higher end Yales. But none of them can integrate with Home assistant fully.

Need to find workaround. If there are any.
