Hi all sifu here, I'm getting my first first first DSLR in my life tomorrow. Now I'm confused with these 2 cameras, d5200 or d3200? As I see there are almost no differences except for the tilt screen and also the 39 AF-points. Is the 39 AF-points important? vs 11 AF-points in d3200. One more question, I heard people talking about AP set, AP vs original, what's the difference?

more AF points will be useful when the subject you are shooting involves movement form one point to another withing the frame like car races, flying birds or running animals. More focus point will ensure a higher chances of each burst shot will result in clear shots of the subject especially when you are photographing high speed moving subjects such as car races. If most of your photography subjects are still (not moving), then the 11 AF point in the D3200 works just fine. One of my own gripe with my D3200 is the lack of tilt screen. Tilt screen would be useful when you wish to take photos from a low angle or if the subject angle is beyond conventional standing up or kneeling angle. Usually I'll just find a clean longkang or do planking if I want to take photos from a low angle. BTW, if you're getting the D3200, I highly recommend you to get the set with 18-105. That lens will last you far longer and it will be more than enough for you to learn and meet all basic photography skills and needs. Furthermore the lens looks big on D3200, so it looks more macho, can turn more heads when you are shooting car show babes. This post has been edited by V12Kompressor: Apr 17 2015, 10:29 PM

both are more or less the same quality, picture wise. Some may argue the 18-55 has a warmer tone or as you said, sharper image but I'd take a longer zoom range in exchange for the slight deficit of sharpness (if it is even noticeable to begin with).
If you want something lighter than 800g+-, then you can go with mirrorless like alpha a5100 or a6000.
