Hi All,

I'm looking for new HU for playing SQ passive..not consider for 80PRS because it too high class for me and also not sure my components able to support for active or not..

So i'm looking for HU budget within RM1K, do any suggestion HU for me? Thanks alot!!

Besides that, any comment for Pioneer AVH-165DVD and AVH-175DVD about the sound quality?

AVH-165DVD is very plain..basic, nothing more than a HU that cannot do anything more. Option/Setting/EQ very limited. You get what you pay for. SQ, check your speaker dulu.

there is no such thing as your component can support active or not... its just a matter of o you know what you are doing or not... if you want to know more about the basics of active settings, you could explore the manuals for your HU and your component on the basics and walk-around...

**should just keep in mind on your frequency settings for each speakers...

on the pioneer DVD... I enjoyed using the current AVH-X**** series more than any other HU on the market nowadays... its intuitive, its clean sounding, its features packed... but the only thing is you have to add on another processor of your choice to go active on these...

as for P80 and the sorts... my experience with them... they always leaves me wanting more from them... to be honest, I never recommended them to anyone eventhough I still keep one... wink.gif

harke, hu alone cant do much, any item that u upgrade got slight different for sure, but to what extend then need to see what u upgrade, every components in a system equally important from installation, ur entire system, cables and speaker placement affect ur sound.

but if u r not going very highend, u dun have to bother tho.....

why want to go active? if u r free n u know how to tune ok la, if duno better go for passive... less headache..

my 2cts...

Hmm...I have a PRS80...full active and the difference between my previous player and even PRS80 without any tuning is huuuuuuuge

So yeah...I really really recommend it. But it needs to be tuned properly to get the best out of it. and of course if you are going to get it tuned, then you will need some work on your doors.

I recommend you visit howiechoo at EA Autowork for recommendations.

Probably you might spend a lot more just to get it right on the crossover.

Might as well just change to a better component system.

imho, all new things need to run in before they sound nice.

use ori passive will do, i always dun really recommend to custom your passive, if u can spend a fortune on ur passive why not top up to either ur hu, speakers or amp....

if ur setup very highend already, and u want to fine tune then yes...

Correct me if im wrong on this theory.

HPF = High pass filter = Sends high frequency signals out to your speaker
LPF = Low Pass Filter = Usually for Sub, sends low frequencies to your sub/low
Bandpass = Mixed of the above

Before u fiddle with that, Know your speakers response range. If you put it too low you can risk spoiling a voice coil. too high and it will distort. If you still keep your manual for your speakers, then u can play around but never go below its FS.

Sifu here can correct me if im wrong. I also budak baru belajar

distortion happens when you push the system to over its limitations... usually the main thing is how you set your amplifier's gain knobs according to your HU RCA output...

as for xover points, never go below [ Fs * 2 ]
