Independance X

Izmir is also the Founder of Independence X Aerospace, Chief Executive Officer for the only Malaysian and South East Asia Team out of 29 teams worldwide participating in the Google Lunar XPRIZE, with the mission to launch a rocket to the moon by 2015.

Independence–X Aerospace from Malaysia is lead by Mohd Izmir Yamin (Aerospace Engineering), who has extensive experience in rocket propulsion and robotic control systems. Independence–X Aerospace has a strong fleet of strategic advisors that have served in various engineering and business fields as professional engineers, technologists and academicians. This team has technical and non-technical departments which will effectively distribute tasks based on members' expertise. Our primary advantage in joining this competition is our strategic geographical location (Much easier to launch from equator, other countries so far are very far up north), which helps to reduce launch costs, and the utilization of abundant direct solar reception. New team members will be recruited through online advertising. Our strategy is to keep things simple and less complicated but still able to achieve the PRIZE objectives. This will help to reduce potential errors and flaws in our system. Avoiding bureaucratic situations will help to speed up the design, fabrication, and test processes.

Our Objectives:

Transform Malaysia into a developed space country by the year 2020.

Fully utilizing the advancement of space technology to improve life through enhancing businesses and industries.

Create technology spin-offs to serve local industries in having locally available technologies that can produce newer and better product for the nation’s economic growth

This is the proposed launch vehicle, the hardware already exists and they are awaiting the approval to build the launch site (according to their replies on their facebook page)

Wow nice detail there. Can that condom shaped ignite upon launch? laugh.gif

Will it run short of fuel halfway during launch like that India failed rocket?

Confirm sure another 1MDB in making?

You need to expect at least a 100 failures before you go anywhere. Over 500 people died in China when this rocket crashed into a village in 1995

To be fair, technology now is MUCH more advanced and you can do heat and stress simulation on the computer, look at spaceX only took them 5 years. The amount of computing power that put man on the moon is less than your digital watch.

Technology is good enough for private to invest now, there are so many private space companies and look at Elon musk and Space X, he surpassed NASA in just 10 years. And they are trying to get grants from google, that's why they are competing in this XPrize award.

Not 5 years but maybe 10. You cannot compare with Virgin galactic, what they are trying to do is a reusable space craft and not a rocket. Even NASA had 2 disasters with their space craft shuttle and that needed fueltanks and boosters, Virgins technology has not been tried by any government (well they have tried and failed miserably). Rockets are much easier and especially since smartphones have really pushed mobile processing power, it really isn't unreasonable for Malaysia to do it.

Hell even Iran has launched animals and even a chimpanzee into space, we are in a much better off financial situation than they are and this is just sending a robot and not any living animals.

IMO, gravity is the key to the universe. If you conquer gravity, you conquer everything. I am pretty sure all the UFOs flying around don't just any fuel-base propulsion system, but somehow manipulates gravity/space/time.

Everything in existance is thanks to gravity....keeping the atoms together....what it is, still no explanation...

He is my course mate during Diploma in Aerospace Engineering before I further study to USM. Really passionate of building rocket for Malaysia. Really admire Russian space technology.
One thing for sure, he is really has high ambition and seek a way to achieve it.

I support this. when people talk about going to space someone actually got up and did it. Even if he fails, at least the fellow gave it a shot.

One thing for sure, he is really has high ambition and seek a way to achieve it.

I am just skeptical at him at that time. In time, who knows.

So where do they want to build this launch platform anyway ? They really need a very large area to launch the rocket. Also in case anything happen like explode in mid air, it must crash where there is no human settlement.

in /k/, when space is involved, you are assumed wasting everyone tax money until you proved yourself innocent due all the previous cases where those stuff happened.
/k/ extra butthurt because most people here earned RM20K so the tax they paid is pretty high.
And all they get for all the tax they paid is shitty police and garmen which increase crime rates and decrease living standards.

Seeing people who they assumed throw away all their hard earned money just like that pissed them off.

You forget that NASA was beaten to the space race by the Soviet Union, who had a significantly lower budget.

Of course, they also had lax safety standards and there are rumors abound of dunno how many Sputniks they sent up but didn't report about it cos the pilot didn't survive. hmm.gif

Seriously, guys. There's good money to be made from space exploration. Although I'm not quite so sure why we're so ambitious to want to land on the moon though. As it is, its quite profitable simply to launch satellites on behalf of others. Our country is situated near the equator after all.

That's not to say a moon landing isn't without benefits. If humanity ever gets around to making fusion power viable, we'll need a source of helium-3 and that's where we'll need the moon. Whichever country can establish a regular and economical way to get to the moon and back with a significant cargo payload is going to make big bucks.

If your English comprehension is poor, I also implied its a bit of a stretch...the landing on the moon thingy.

But there's good money to be made launching satellites for others.

The part about the moon is for the google Xprize lunar competition, whoever lands any object on the moon of whatever size and moves 500 m first wins. Prize is 30 million USD. I think they are just using this xprize as a push start to a larger space program, if you watch his interview he did in february with google, he tells his plans.

You got to think on a wider scale lar. I'm also concerned about songlap and waste of money bla bla, but this really does seem to be mostly a private initiative so I don't quite see what's the problem.

It might eventually involve our govt if its successful, and will likely need funding from them yes, but this is one venture I genuinely approve of unlike stupid nonsense like PERMATA.

We could seriously use some smarter minds and rocket scientists in this country, and there's no way we can attract them without something like this. Unlike Potong, mediocrity isn't an option in the space race.

In other words, it has to be done right or it won't happen at all. I dunno about you, but I'm hoping for the former.

Succeeding in this will boost the technology of our country by leaps and bounds.

Fail and something blows up spectacularly. sweat.gif

Nah, i still think this is wishful thinking from a 3rd world POV. You say eventually the govt will get involve. You said it. A new platform to cuci and songlap created. Better improve technology on agriculture or anything on land. Our bloody roads are a fine example. Msian rocket scientist? You kidding me?

Malaysia is like a lil hyperactive delusional kid trying to impress the big boys. Of course TED will host you, they need all the audience they could get. They won't vouch for your ideas thou, they're just a platform for you to express them.

Every venture that requires govt grants/funding will be accompanied by suited chimps that got there by nepotism. They are the fckers responsibly to bloat every spending available. It's not like it's coming from their pocket.

So I'm sorry but this dream ain't taking off anywhere from Msia's rational perspective.

Why don't u do something great for the country

Everything has to start small

What's wrong with Malaysian rocket scientist
Are you saying Malaysia should not do such a job?

Or maybe better to work for big space company like space x

What 3rd world ?? Iran already sent multiple animals into space and even a chimpanzee and so has North Korea and even Indonesia has tested rockets a few times over the last 2 decades. Malaysians are MUCH more educated and advanced as a society than Iran and North Korea. We really aren't a 3rd world country anymore, We aren't first world either, but we are closer to first world than third world.
