Q on driver not named in schedule.
1. As long as they are qualified, I'll just need to pay RM400 excess for damage to my car, right?
2. If i don't claim damage on my car but only have to pay compensation to the other party (say, hit a pedestrian), will it matter if the driver is not named in my policy schedule?
3. If there is a new driver (probation period), I don't have to bother including her name in my policy, right? Afterall, still kena pay the RM400 excess.
4. Is it the same situation if my car is driven by a workshop worker (say, tyre alignment or normal test drive after repairs)?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE(loui @ Jan 9 2018, 09:30 AM) 1. Yes if you intend to make an OD claim 2. No. Unnamed driver only affect you (pay RM400) if you intend to do an OD claim 3. Yes 4. Yes. But workshop worker is by law required to hang a trade plate when they test drive your car. Hence if any accident happen, it will be claim against the workshop and not your car example of trade plate Thank you for your clarification. Didn't realise a trade plate is required in Q4 to claim from workshop insurance. I wonder if any independent workshop has trade plates.

QUOTE(loui @ Feb 12 2019, 09:24 PM) Pretty sure workshop already submit the damage photo from the first accident to insurance company If insurance company found out, they will treat it as fraudulent claim. The consequences is that, insurance company will blacklist your IC and refuse all the claims You still need to lodge police report to claim from the 2nd car In this case, what happens to the arrangement with the first workshop to fix his bumper, since he kena hit again before fixing the bumper damaged in the first accident? Will the insurance company from 2nd car dispute the quantum claimed since the bumper was already damaged in first accident?

loui and others, Is there any disadvantage/downside to switching insurance company frequently? For example, if you're "loyal", the renewal will be cheaper (for no claim history, or even after you claimed this year).
Asking because my car is due for 3rd renewal, first and second years are insured by different companies. For this coming 3rd renewal, Allianz is quoting RM100 less premium for the same insured value, and Tokio Marine is quoting RM50 more but for RM3k higher insured value - compared to existing MSIG.

QUOTE(loui @ Jun 19 2020, 05:17 PM) Nope Comprehensive is a free market, hence each insurance companies will charge base on their risk assessment My suggestion when renewing comprehensive policy is to pick those who has strong claims department. Don't go for small company who might charge lesser, you will feel the pain dealing with the claim department Aim those bigger insurance companies and check their google review Thank you for your reply. Been googling but there's not much info.

Sifus, My insurance expires in August this year. I've just renewed with another company (thanks to loui for clarifying) with 55% ncd factored in. Wanna ask, if I kena accident and it's my fault (saman by polis), or I self-langgar and claim own insurance, say next week,
1. will the new insurance company forfeit my ncd discount amount in ringgit and ask me to top up the difference for the new policy?
2. If answer is "no" to Q1, what if I renewed with the same insurance company? Will they ask me to top up, since they know I have a claim coming?

QUOTE(loui @ Jul 1 2020, 02:53 PM) 1. Yes, they will send you letter to request to top up. TQ for clarifying. 1. Another question wrt the same scenario in earlier question: since now I have a claim case pending, will the new policy be more expensive overall or I just need to make up gor the ncd part? Example of my new policy, basic premium RM1000 before less 55% ncd. Will the new insurance ask me to top up just the RM550 (and the resultant SST), or my base premium will be adjusted (no longer RM1000) upwards since I'm considered more risky driver? 2. Is there any benefit of renewing policy ASAP, savings wise?

QUOTE(loui @ Jul 1 2020, 04:06 PM) 1. Is the same thing. example your NCD 50% and premium without policy is 1000. So when you renew, you only pay RM500. Then before the new policy set it, accident happen, NCD hilang. Insurance company will ask RM500 from you 2. Nope Thank you for explaining. Much appreciated.

QUOTE(loui @ Jun 10 2020, 09:02 AM) Civil law Act dictate, 6 years for injury claim & 3 years if the other side died This is regarding the "open file for possible future claims". Say the 3rd party has filed injury claim. My ncd drops to zero. Q1. Is 3rd party allowed to file another new claim within 6 years, since some symptoms only manifest later? Q2: when will my ncd start to build up again, if it's yes to Q1?

QUOTE(loui @ Jun 12 2021, 09:02 AM) Police is giving you wrong information Still can do third party claim but make sure the biker kena saman Pass the siasatan polis to your insurance company and ask whether can claim under OD no fault claim Q1. Regarding the post you replied too, if my car is illegally parked and is hit by another vehicle, will I be able to claim the other party's insurance? Q2. Will IO automatically assume I am guilty because of illegal parking, and issue me RM300 compound for the accident?

loui, I'm thinking about adding riot coverage.
1) In a minor accident, if the other party or bystanders get agitated and go on to damage my car (break windscreen, dent doors with helmets, etc) will I be able to claim if I don't have riot coverage? It's obvious the damage is not from the accident itself.
If windscreen is damaged as a result of the "riot" above, 2a) do I claim under riot (if I have riot coverage), or under windscreen coverage?
2b) if I have only windscreen coverage but don't have riot coverage, will I be able to claim windscreen under windscreen coverage, or they will reject since damage is caused by riot?
3) is vandalism covered by riot coverage? Say I park my car and it's damaged by unknown people but there's no report of riots or demonstration in that area.
Edit: 4) will i lose ncd if I claim under riot?

QUOTE(loui @ Jul 27 2022, 07:22 PM) 1. Not so easy for insurance company to deny liability due to riot. You need to have the said incident declared as riot by AG chambers. Remember the Hindu temple riot case which result in death of a fireman? There are few cars for damaged in between and insurance companies base on police statement, attempt to resist the claim on ground of riot. But government and AG chamber refuse to declare as riot and insurance companies end up paying 2. Need to read the policy as a whole. If riot is establish, it applies to whole policy plus any add on 3. Refer to no.1 Thank you so much for your explanation. Very much appreciated.
