VW saved someone's penis

The government blinked - a reference to a situation where two parties are challenging each other and the first one who 'blinks' is the loser. It goes back to cowboy days when two gunmen faced each other and had to keep their eyes wide open because when one blinked, the other would draw the gun and shoot him in that moment.

Get a copy of today's Financial Daily and the frontpage news is that VW will take 51% in key Proton assets and Sime Darby will take over Khazanah's stake.

Main points of the report:

1. A new j-v company will be formed in which VW will hold 51% and the present Proton Holdings will hold 49%.

2. Sime Darby will buy over the 43% of Proton Holdings which is held by Khazanah, thereby owning Proton.

3. The new j-v company will incorporate subsidiaries of Proton such as R&D, manufacturing and Lotus but Proton Holdings will keep PE and local distribution.

4. The new company will continue to use the Proton brand name for the Malaysian market as well as for export models.

5. Finalisation of the deal will be discussed in New York soon where the main parties are meeting.

I've checked with my kakis and the story is pretty reliable (which is why it was not placed under 'Rumours') and not some more speculation to allow certain people to make more money on the ding-dong share prices of Proton. I am sure certain people have been making a lot of money in the past year as Proton's prices zoomed up and then down. Guess this will be their last chance to unload the shares which they would have bought cheap last week and make a nice fat profit.
