uMobile Internet sucks.

I tried since just few months back.

Every month sure got a day or 2 downtime and signal reverts to Maxsucks.

The peering is damn lousy. Local speedtest for DC-HSPA can reach 15mbps, but when you do international speedtest to non peering networks can hit below 3mbps or even 2mbps during peak hours for even HK or US websites.

We pay premium pricing for such lousy connection?

Uh... while I agree U's internet has gotten quite a bit worse, what premium pricing you paying? I go for U because its cheap (and better coverage than yellow man). I believe no matter which plan you're on for U its cheaper than similar plan from blue and purple carriers, so what premium pricing?

You're paying for slow to RM70 just for 5GB with traffic counter towards quota allowance, you get less than 3mbps speeds on international servers?

Even TM sucky UNLIMITED fixed lines have better peering than this when it comes to consistency.

Worst you're given carrier grade NAT addresses.

How bad can this get?

When Indonesia sells the same amount for under RM10 while Taiwan sells UNLIMITED HSPA+/4G for RM65 a month?

Top up NTD1000 a month get 30 days UNLIMITED Data Pass with NTD450 credit for calls/texts.
Prepaid service summore. No contracts or obligations.

In fact all Taiwanese mobile companies offer UNLIMITED mobile data plans for less than RM100 monthly.

Just signed up for a U28 post paid, and I can't get the mobile data to work no matter how I try, saying my mobile data is turned off when its actually on.

On the network bar, there's a G sign with a little R besides it and I guess its on 2G mode roaming? Which is a little weird as I live in Seri Kembangan and according to the coverage map there should be 3G network coverage here.

Edit: So...I got the connection to work, but it's still a slow connection, on roaming, that only offers 0.1 mbps download speed, what could be the problem?

It means you're forced to hop on Maxis's 2G network because their 3G base station in your area is down for the time being. I suggest you make a report to them and demand some answers from their technical team. Their own telephone operators might not even have an idea what is happening until their technical team gets back to them and confirm.

My place also like yours. Every month sure to have downtime for once or twice disconnected to their own 3G base station. You cannot hop on to Maxis's 3G network so the only network it will connect to is Maxis's old 2G network.
I know this because sometimes MY MAXIS appears instead of UMOBILE when I'm forced on 2G.

Areas where their 3G HSPA+LTE network serves, if they go down your only option is Maxis 2G.

Complaint is about U mobile but in actual fact not happy about MY vs international. Win liao la.

I repeat, within Malaysia U is not premium price. That's the only choice we as consumers have. Want to compare with other countries then every damn thing is not worth buying (and also unfair to blame it on the individual providers unless its a monopoly business).

Checked the price of property in Mongolia recently? How about the price of cars in America? Or strawberries in Australia? No end one la....

All stupid telcos in Malaysia are under an oligopoly system.

Malaysia wants to be taikor as chair country for ASEAN? laugh.gif

It is now at the bottom for telco infra and pricing now. How they want to lead by example?
