very annoying noise problem while recording guitar

my chain is guitar (passive humbucker) -> boss gt-10 (usb) -> PC (fl studio) and the noise is exactly like this guy HERE. answer in that site says about bursting power supply and/or connect the interface directly to ground. both pc psu and gt10 psu has 3 pins connector. however the gt10 has plastic ground in that 3 pin which means it doesnt have ground. meanwhile the PC has working ground in the pins. long time ago i did connect gt10 to ground by connecting another wire to the back of gt10, and slot it into a working 3 pin plug, replacing the original gt10 male plug. the noise still there. question is how to solve this noise issue. Have u try with other guitar cable? or u could play with noisegate/vst noisegate effect, not sure if gt10 has built-in noisegate. Or u could manually set on FL to filter 1-15 kHz recording sound if supported.

gating the noise with gate filter is a possible cheap way but the noise will be back when you make a sound with guitar
are you using your boss gt10 as your interface to record sound? Because that's a common noise problem with built in pc soundcards. (maybe try not connecting anything and record a silent file to see if your computer is acting up)
I may be guessing but it also could be your pickups are picking things up.
Worse come to worst you gotta record analog to a different soundcard to avoid noise
Hope I helped

i pretty much wanna avoid using noise gate since it will gate too much of the sustain. also i dont have other cables to test. been using planet waves cable with the on/off switch on the input jack.
yeah i use gt10 as interface, recording straight through USB into FL Studio. i also have discrete sound card (asus DGX) and onboard (realtek) which i didnt use to record at all.
the noise will be significantly slower if i stand far away from the PC, which is very very inconvenient since there will be many recording session.
does guitar shielding play any part in this noise? im using dimarzio d-activator 7 both neck and bridge with coil tap switch.

QUOTE(jagged @ Apr 9 2015, 06:16 PM) will try that sometime later. currently using ENERMAX NAXN82+ 650W non modular. gonna change into the older CM Realpower M850. got more headroom there hopefully reduce the noise. DI box seems viable option too but i dont have any clue about pricing. quick google shows godlike prices out of my range. also discovered furman "power conditioner", it sounds like it will do the job.

You don't need to have a wattage psu. Just 550W is suffice for your requirement. Find one with a good brand for the additional filtering.

Since you said noisegate would reduce the noise, probably problem is from yr guitar...same issue on neck pickup? or just bridge? have u try other input on yr gt-10? like mic or whatever input just to test record beside yr guitar haha

I forgot whether my emg 81 85 having noise but i think it did. Ill test with emgs tonight.
if it still do then i will pull trigger on hd400. Read reviews and videos about it and seems promising enough for my setup.
EDITED: yes, emg picks up the noise too.

since the DI box seller is being absurdly quiet, and the guy from the link also tested with DI box with no success, i might as well adapt the noise. gotta find some way to sit farther from the PC while recording.
makes me wonder how those home studio youtubers did it. i know keith merrow has isobox, but he also sits in front of his pc all the way and the guitar didnt pick up any PC noise at all.

Hi, have you tried grounding your equipment? Or using aluminium foil to shield from the emf of the computer? Grounding: I had ground static, more erratic than the example you gave. I used an old 3 pin plug with only the ground pin, and used wire (copper with rubber coat, about 1mm diameter total, don't what it's called ) to connect the plug to a metal part of my equipment. The easiest spot was the tip of the instrument cable. And it works! However must be careful before rain as the ground may be "dirty". Aluminiom foil: Can be used to reflect emf from components. I've used it to reduce emf noise coming from my USB 3.0 exHDD. The exHDD emits noise at 2.4GHz which is Wifi frequency and interferes with my wifi connection. And it works! Have used it for P1 router before.. but that's another story... Hope this helps!

Ya. Cover the area that faces your guitar, it acts as a reflector.
