One of my favourite PS2 games is a budget Japanese title called Chikyuu Boueigun 2. Basically it's like Starship Troopers: The Game. You're protecting the earth from hundreds and hundreds of giant ants, giant spiders, UFOs, godzillas, walking robots, and more. The multiplayer experience is unrivalled. The completely destructable environments are a nice touch too.

Now the next game in the series is coming out on the 360 in December. I have no idea if it's getting a Western release (#2 never did), but it's one of those games where you don't really need to know Japanese to enjoy. Just point and shoot. smile.gif

Screenshots don't do it justice:

Big monster/robots & huge ants destroying Japan landmarks -- this reminds me of Godzilla and Ultraman tongue.gif btw, i'm quite impressed on the extremely huge robot at the last part of the video, i think that's even bigger than PS2's Shadow Of Collossus rocky monsters dont you think? shocking.gif gonna wait the review of this game

Oh I'm glad this thread was bumped, I thought I was the only one who was excited for this game.

I'm actually holding off buying this for a while; too many games on the go now. Plus, my friend and I hit a wall with the Chikyuu Boueigun 2 on the PS2 on level 60 (or something like that) where we just couldn't kill the hundreds of red ants, spiders and flies, not ot mention the walking robots shooting lasers at us. I think there were nests we had to destroy, but we could never make it. sad.gif

I guarantee you this will be great though; you'll fall in love with it as soon as you fire a rocket at a skyscraper and watch it crumble to the ground. biggrin.gif

Cult gaming at its finest.

well, ppl are saying the english VA is really campy and really adds to the game smile.gif yup JPN version should be manageable without understanding a word of japanese.

its has great co-op play, but the 6800Yen tag is kinda expensive. maybe wait for the platinum rerelease?

Yeah, I was waiting for the US release because it was cheaper. And in English. But now, I might just go for the JP release. I played EDF2 in Japanese and it was fine. Except not knowing what the weapons in the weapon screen were. tongue.gif

Added on March 31, 2007, 1:09 pmFor those who were holding back on buying the JP version because of it's price, the game is slightly more reasonably priced at play-asia due to the 20% off sale on at the moment:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-br-77-...ce-70-1mjf.html

It's probably not going to get any cheaper soon. And, it's worth every penny. smile.gif Remember to invite a friend over to play.

I just bought the JP version from GH.

Let's see now

- PS2 Graphics
- Severe slow down when lotsa ants on screen.
- No online multiplayer

And yet...

- Buildings crumble at every SINGLE rocket shot.
- Firing a bazooka into the middle of an ant pile is SOOOOO satisfying
- Your teammates actually MAKE a difference by killing giant ants, makes me wish I could dictate what weapons they carry.

God.. it just feels soooo FUN!!!

QUOTE(marauderz @ Mar 31 2007, 05:49 PM)
I just bought the JP version from GH.

Let's see now

- PS2 Graphics
*
Hehe, that's actually an improvement seeing as the PS2 games had PS1 graphics. biggrin.gif

Added on April 5, 2007, 11:47 pmI finally got this a couple of days ago. And it's totally lived up to all my expectations. The first four levels were nothing special, and then suddenly halfway through the fifth level, the game turns up the awesomeness. The new shiny robots and motherships are lovely. To you guys, the graphics might pale next to Gears Of War, but for someone who played and loved EDF 2, (one of the ugliest games ever), it's a massive improvement. This is one of those games where I really notice gamepad rumble as well, it's so satisfying firing off rockets. FOOM!

I'm going to get some co-op going this weekend. To be honest, it's the best way to enjoy this game.

So yeah, highest recommendation from me. It's up there with Crackdown and Gears Of War.
