QUOTE(HoneyDear @ May 10 2015, 04:47 PM) my friend is teaching ballet (23 yo) but she told me not to learn because for adults u get higher risk of getting bone fracture Seriously? I highly disagree. If you are talking about someone with no or with very little dance background being made to go en pointe right away, then I might agree. But no responsible ballet teacher would allow that. On the contrary, I would highly recommend adult ballet classes by responsible teachers. Of course, you need to manage your expectations and communicate well with your teacher. For instance, if you feel pain while executing a move, you need to tell the teacher so that she knows what your limits are. Starting ballet as an adult has it's limitations (for e.g. flexibility, joint mobility problems) but it is still a fantastic form of workout. I've found it (and other dance forms) to be the best method of strengthening the core muscles, improve posture and have a overall sense of well-being. It also helps the mind to stay alert because you need to learn the barre exercises and combinations. To the OP, unfortunately I can't recommend my studio where I learn to you because I'm from up north but I would encourage you to give the ballet schools a call and talk to the teachers so that you know what to expect and if you are up for it. Many studios have trial classes and you can always go for one to see if you enjoy it. Best of luck! |
