Hi my frens, I wanna shoot videos as main content for my upcoming blog.
The videos are mostly explanation videos, of me speaking on certain personal finance topics.

I already have a decent camera & sony vegas, and that's all I have.

I wonder if I wanna shoot a professional looking video, what kind of accessories else do I need?

Lighting? Green background? tripod?

what do I need to make videos look good? Any vlogger here?

a decent mic

Since its an explanation video you should focus on audio first. You can either go shotgun mic or lav mic. If its indoor and just talking on a table then you don't need to go for the expensive ones. You could even use both since 2 recordings are safer. In case one fails. You don't want to be talking for an hour and then realized the mic failed to record. You can look at Takstar or Azden for budget mics. Rode, Tascam, Zoom, Shure, Senheizer etc. are also good brands to look at.

Headphones - and maybe other audio monitoring gears to test out the audio to make sure it sounds great. Always useful to test things out before going on to talk for minutes.

Tripods to angle everything nicely. If its indoor at home then again you don't need expensive ones.

You don't need to buy a background as long as your background is not super ugly and distracting.

2 light setup - for a more pro look. You could also go with a ring light. Just as long as your face is lit up nicely should be fine.

laptop with cable to connect to camera. Tethering them together. So you can see and monitor what is being recorded while you are talking. You can also buy external monitor for this duty also. If your camera has a flip screen then you can skip this.

2nd camera - You want the more pro look the 2nd camera for a 2nd angle makes things look more pro. Maybe even a 3rd one. Professional talk shows always change angles and zoom in and out.

Always depends how pro you want it to look. But the first priority for explanation video should be audio. Your audio sucks people will easily lose interest in listening to you.

I got a condenser mic, is that sufficient? Do I need to get a higher quality mic?


I think I should go for ur advice for a tripod.
For the light, any good light ring in the market u would recommend to me? I'm veil vela noob in this.
For the mic I got 1 condenser mic Takstar PCK200. Is it good enuf?

One more question, which software u use to record ur audio? U record video and audio separately right?


Yeah, this type of explanatory video is what I'm looking for.
I will be speaking and explaining, perhaps with monitor/small white board beside me while I illustrate some graphs.

Is it hard to do coz I tak da experience at all in video shooting.

i think its best u get a lav mic. those seinheiser wireless lav mics are expensive.

on my vids I'm using a Zoom H1 handy recorder (RM300+) and connected it with a cheapo lav mic from Kenz.com.my for only RM59.

I will upgrade to Rhode Lav Mic thats about RM600+. So I would say my cost is around RM900+.

and if that condenser mic can be directed into one point should be fine.

make sure to just try it out a lot and u have to be aware of background noises

Yeah I recorded background sound...

If I use lav mic, the background sound will decrease?

May I know if lav mic can be attached to laptop directly? So that I can use a good software to record my audio

On camera mic is alright but it's also very sensitive. for my case, it records my breathing.

If you're standing in FRONT of the mic then the reception would be a problem, the mic is located at the side of the camera body.

As for lighting, cheapest way is just to use basic lights (like those from Ikea) and have your white balance adjusted according.

If you're willing to spend more then you can purchase a few LED + adapter + stand. That sets you back quite a fair bit, budget yourself at least RM 1k.

It's my favorite shop, also a poison shop. Go there, bring a resistant shield in case you go into a frenzy of buying.

I was more thinking of the Takstar SGC-598 shotgun mic. Not too sure how your mic performs. If the voice is nice and clear should be fine. Background noise is usually not a problem. A lot of nice videos I've seen have their background volume less than 10-20% than their voice/subject volume. Nothing wrong with a little ambient environment sound. Avoid having a fan blowing wind near the mic - that makes really bad noise.

I don't use any software to record. I just plug mic straight to camera or the zoom h1 recorder.

And laptops usually have a 3.5mm jack to plug any mic in so you can record it that way if you want.

As for lights i have 2x 528 LED panels that can really light up a whole set up. You could save money and buy 2x 300 LED panels by Yong nuo, since you're just lighting yourself up alone it should do quite nice. Make sure you get the light stands to set them up easily. These LED lights can be used for photography too. Though not cheap, anyone who is serious about lighting up their videos will find these LEDs a good investment.

And you never really said what's your budget on things. Could recommend a good shotgun mic like Rode Video Mic Pro, but then you might not agree with the price tag.
