Oh i see, so a m2 ssd can act like a ssd working together with a HDD..
Whats the Difference between DM014 and DM 174? their specs looks exactly the same.

Also, there is this screen flickering on GL552 im hearing about, is this serious?
Is it on malaysian models?

Any other laptop recommendations? I kinda have the same requirement as maxteoh. Need it for work and D2 .

Cant comment much because i'm not a user.
You can ask fellow users of the G series from other thread.

Other recommendation is what pandera has added.

Lenovo Y50
Dell Inspiron 7447
Acer V Nitro

Well, apparently you can fix it by maxing the brightness level of the screen to 100 percent.

Yup, i saw lol. isnt 100% brightness too much for the eye. haha, IF G551 fixes this issue, then maybe can consider, like 400 difference only.
Then my natural thought would be, for 3.5k , maybe there is other laptops worth it? Any recommendation? haha
*
Not really with that budget unless you dont mind upping it to RM4K that is where you get more choices.

If screen is a problem then Lenovo Y50 would not be one of them. Acer Nitro thermal cooling isnt that good, you need to tweak software setting to get good temps.

Then only choice is Asus. Quality is there but warranty suck.

Haha, just pray the hardware dont spoil, then nothing to worry ah?

Basically that. haha.

Just do regular maintenance to your laptop and with good care can last you for a long time.

Hi,

1. Preferred brand - Please advise
2. Budget - less than RM 2,000
3. Work purpose (sales app, excel, word, pdf), light game and movie.
4. Screen size - 14 inches
5. Preference - light, nice design. gold colour maybe?

Was very interested with this Acer Aspire V5-473P but currently out of stock. The salesman keeps suggesting to take i5 for better performance and long lasting. He said that if buy i3, it will become laggy when i type fast + after using for some time.

I was told that the normal lifespan for a laptop is 4 years? in that case, will it be sufficient to buy an i3 laptop?

All sifus and pros, your advise and suggestions are very much appreciated. TQ
*
Dont think so. i3 will do fine and increase the RAM to at least 4GB while the only thing will be slow is the HDD.

Lifespan of laptop depends whether you do regular maintenance and take care of your laptop. Usually is around 3 to 4 years but with good care can last even longer.

Dear All, I'm looking for a laptop as details below I'm so confuse on decision making now.

1. Preferred Brand :- Mac / MSI
2. Budget - RM4.8k
3. Usage - creative such as adobe, and occasionally gaming.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: - 14" above
*
Take the Mac if you use its in build program. Other than that, other brand would be lower in price for the same performance.

Check out

Illegear

MSI GE62/72 or PE60/70

I see. Thanks guys. Any chance of getting a UHD screen? I think I may fork out around 4500.. Lenoyo Y50 looks amazing but a bit expensive and the GC is 860m only. Actually is there really a difference with 960m?
*
Not really. The 960 is around ~8 percent more performance than 860.

As for UHD and up, it is not recommended to get it for gaming as current hardware has not enough raw performance (as per your case a 960M) for High settings with UHD.

Other than that, if you like it. Then go get it.

I don't know whether it has been fix but playing by reducing resolution on a UHD screen would not look pretty so for now FullHD is the go to resolution.

With that budget look at

Illegear

Cyberforge

MSI

Hi guys, just wanted to ask for my brother on gaming laptop.

1. Preferred brand: none but with good after sales support
2. Budget: 4000 - 6000
3. Usage: Gaming and Movies
4. Preferred laptop size: 15" - 17"

He was looking at alienware 15.6" and 17" both around 6469 and 6799.
Was wondering if there are any better alternative comparable to alienware.
Considering reliability, cooling and after sales support.

Thanks for helping! Hoping to get some good comparison here.
*
The only one i could think of is Illegear.

Check it out. Clevo chassis and good after sale service.

Clevo chassis means?
Yea i was checking illegear but not sure if it is reliable or the cooling part.
alienware seems to be getting good reviews on the net.

thanks for helping!
*
Cooling is good.

Clevo is a company who makes bare bone laptop chassis/casing. It has the quality you seek and from illegear thermal management it has one of the best cooling too.

Thanks for all the replies, but sorry to have caused an argument. The reason why I wanted it with UHD was that this could be my laptop for the next 3-4 years, so in the future I could play UHD contents like movies etc on it. And also, not sure if it's true, read that if I downscale the screen to 1080p the screen will display 1080p things a bit sharper compared to normal 1080p screens?

Also about the GPU, how much of a difference it is comparing GTX960m to GTX970m? RM800 difference over the two.

Right now I'm probably down to two. Illegear Z5 & Asus G551JM. Haven't seen Cyberforge yet. Other models doesn't come up to specs.
*
970m is around ~64 percent more performance compared to 960m.

You might encounter black bars if you downscale to fullhd from uhd.

I see, the Illegear Z5 with 970m, RM4999, worth it?
*
For me it is.

Because of the quality chassis and after sale service. I dont mind paying more for those two (My preference).

The only laptop model i know can get more than 90 percent SRGB. LOL. Might need other Sifu help.

One more would be Acer Nitro and HP Zbook or Apple but out of your budget.

Color Range: sRGB < AdobeRGB < NTSC

100% sRGB = 72% NTSC gamut, it's within normal gamut range. Only 90% NTSC gamut and above is considered wide color gamut range.

There are many laptop screens feature 72% NTSC gamut nowadays for e.g. IPS, AHVA, PLS and IGZO displays.

I remember there was an ASUS monitor that covers 100% NTSC color gamut, that's real true-to-life color.

weird that they dont have the killer wifi option for the z5, ltr i go ask them and see..

btw as for the graphic card, is it worth to invest the extra rm799 for the upgrade from GTX960 4GB DDR5 to GTX970 3GB DDR5

it seems there's a significant difference base on the bench mark test
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-970M-vs-GeForce-GTX-960M
they provide d is crucial M550 mSata SSD 256 GB for rm569 , 256GB ssd or gtx970 graphic card  hmm.gif
*
Well, if you are going to use the lappy for the foreseeable future then I'll say invest in getting the gtx970 as it is good and like prince j said. Ssd and ram can upgrade later on.

I went to check a few of these models out and right now I'm leaning more towards the Lenovo U41-70 & G40-80.
Also came across the HP Pavilion 14/15 series when I was surveying and they look pretty okay too, still reconsidering. Any opinions on the HP Pavilion series?

Sorry for asking so many questions  sweat.gif

As a HP user, they have good after sale service (send straight to their HQ) and good quality but might be more pricier than normal. thumbup.gif

Am using my 4 year old DV6 and still going strong. Just updated to Windows 10 rclxm9.gif .
