Hi guys, I wanted to ask for my brother on gaming laptop.

1. Preferred brand: none
2. Budget: 4000 - 5000
3. Usage: Mostly gaming
4. Preferred laptop size: 15" - 17"

I was looking at illegear and MSI GE Series GE70 Apache Pro-681.
Was wondering which is better, or any alternative recommendations.
I prefer the laptop to be light, and probably good cooling as well.
I have one question:
1. If I were getting illegear, I can only get it on December, will there be any new gaming laptop release?

Thanks for the help

Asus X454LJ – 14” , I3-5005U , 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, GT920M ,  W8.1 bing around Rm1.4k

Asus X554LJ – 15.6” , I5-5200 , 4GB RAM , 500GB HDD, GT920M, freeDOS , around Rm1.7k

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. But I just saw a review in LYN of the Lenovo U41, unfortunately the reviewer got the top of the line unit with Intel Core i7 but there mentioned that there's an Intel Core i3 variant as well? I got attracted by it, and the specs of the Intel Core i3 variant looks perfect for my need, so should I get it over the Asus X554LJ? Thanks.

This will be my first laptop so I'll have to choose carefully.

Thanks for all the replies, but sorry to have caused an argument.

Arguments are not necessarily bad, especially if backed by solid facts. I'm always up for a good debate tongue.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Lenovo U41 feature an integrated GPU?

From your list of options, the Asus X55 seems your best bet IMHO

I have no idea, but I saw that both the Lenovo U41 and Asus X554LJ have the same Nvidia GT920M 2GB.

And yeah, the Asus X554LJ looks like the way to go because it has a better CPU, but since it runs DOS out of the box, I'm quite afraid that it will be over my budget if I add Windows into it. What should I do?

Opt for SSD upgrade if you have extra pocket money. SSD makes your laptop read files faster and they last longer than HDD. Because they have shock resistant up to 1500g/0.5ms. Making them less susceptible to shock and damage. icon_idea.gif

Good enough for college usage.
Dell vostro already use low voltage ram. Adding SSD only increase battery life around 30 minutes. i think some Dell Latitude can survive longer than vostro. Any specific reason why you want Vostro?

now im still using older gen vostro as business used only, this unit offer lower weight and average budget on wallet.

Personally I think the price is quite high for such specs and only include hd resolution. Asus zenbook looks better compared to this. ~Just my 2sen.

Asus UX305FA – 13.3 FHD / M-5Y10 / 8GB / 256GB M.2 SSD / W8.1 ,1.2kg, price around Rm2700

Hi,

I am owning a MacBook Air 11" Intel i5 which is meant for word processing and web browsing. Thus it is now too small screen size and unefficient for Full HD Gopro video editing.

Preferred brand : Asus, Lenovo, HP
Budget : Below RM3k
Usage : Full HD Amateur Video Editing, may be gaming later
Wishes for rolleyes.gif : Full HD IPS display of at least 15.6" size, non-glared display, Bluray writer, Hybrid drive

After much research, I have much liked Asus N551ZU-DM022H - http://www.lazada.com.my/asus-n551zu-dm022...ok-1448098.html

It is an AMD processor and Radeon GPU, with a spare RAM slot for upgrade.

Please comment / advise. drool.gif
