I see. Thanks guys. Any chance of getting a UHD screen? I think I may fork out around 4500.. Lenoyo Y50 looks amazing but a bit expensive and the GC is 860m only. Actually is there really a difference with 960m?

slightly improvement. not much. just a brand new 860m and improvement

That statement is kind of misleading. UHD is mainly detrimental to gaming because of the amount of processing power required to run games at that resolution. Since laptop parts are generally weaker in comparison to their desktop counterparts, FHD still is the best sweet spot for gaming performance vs display quality. That being said, if you have the hardware necessary to support it, UHD is just a matter of resolution scaling and hence is supported by the majority of games.

One point of note however, is that UHD screens tend to consume more power than their FHD counterparts and thus can lead to shorter battery life in laptops.

I saw all big Lenovo concept stores have already displayed the latest Y50-70 model with GC GTX 960M.

Not really. The 960 is around ~8 percent more performance than 860.

As for UHD and up, it is not recommended to get it for gaming as current hardware has not enough raw performance (as per your case a 960M) for High settings with UHD.

Other than that, if you like it. Then go get it.

I don't know whether it has been fix but playing by reducing resolution on a UHD screen would not look pretty so for now FullHD is the go to resolution.

With that budget look at

Illegear

Cyberforge

MSI

Hi sifu,

Narrowed down to this 2 model :

Lenovo
1. G4080 i5 5200
2. G5080 i7 5500

Difference between both of these model (RM 20) is just the processor speed and the G4080 having win8 compared to G5080 DOS, and the screen size which is not really the main factor.

Which one will be a better choice?

1. Preferred brand: Any brand
2. Usage: Normal stuffs, surfing the internet, YouTube, some gaming
3: Budget: below RM 1700
4: Screen size: 13-15 inch

I'm on a tight budget, can't afford a laptop with great specs. This will be my first laptop, so I want a laptop with at least Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, Nvidia or AMD graphic card, good battery life, Windows 8.1. Thanks.

Dell vostro already use low voltage ram. Adding SSD only increase battery life around 30 minutes. i think some Dell Latitude can survive longer than vostro. Any specific reason why you want Vostro?

Hi guys, just wanted to ask for my brother on gaming laptop.

1. Preferred brand: none but with good after sales support
2. Budget: 4000 - 6000
3. Usage: Gaming and Movies
4. Preferred laptop size: 15" - 17"

He was looking at alienware 15.6" and 17" both around 6469 and 6799.
Was wondering if there are any better alternative comparable to alienware.
Considering reliability, cooling and after sales support.

Thanks for helping! Hoping to get some good comparison here.
