The writer, Chin Mee Poon, was born in 1948 in the province of Guangdong, China. In 1955, he and a younger sister followed their mother to the then Malaya (now Peninsular Malaysia) to join their father there.
Worked as a civil engineer for about 30 years, mainly in the construction industry specialising in bridge construction and manufacture of precast prestressed concrete beams.
After his retirement from business, he travels extensively with his wife and has since published two books, the first one on his adventure travelling from Kunming in Yunnan Province of China to Lhasa in Tibet by various means of transport including horse-back riding and hiking, via a rarely traversed route that runs beside Nujiang (River Nu that becomes the Salween River once it leaves the Chinese border) over Henduan Mountain into the southeastern part of Tibet; the second book on his experience completing the longest train journey in the world in 102 days from Malaga, Spain all the way to Hochiminh City, Vietnam, stopping in 17 cities in Europe, 11 cities along the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia, 10 cities in China and 7 cities in Vietnam, covering a total distance of more than 25,000 km.
