yes correct, AMEX totally useless nowadays.
i just applied the platinum 2 cards, i went to more than 10 places in my town, all not accept amex. petrol, shopping malls outlets, so far no 1 accept my amex.
the only place i can use amex now is Shopee. and lazada too i guess.
and need weekends then got 5% cb. If suddenly want buy something, impossible to wait for that.

Over the counter or outside the pump area?

At Shell also can. I did many times already.

Eh Caltex don't accept AMEX at pump anymore? I've seen 3 stations that do not accept AMEX at the pump.

use this topic as reference, but dont be surprise if any places that you vist doesnt accept amex, because they really doesnt want to accept/enable it. they avoid amex like a plague.

primarily, it's not technical nor card issue. it's commercial issue as amex rate higher than visa/mc, which would hurt their profit margin.

U can actually ignore their request.

Merchants are not allowed to reject Amex acceptance if their terminal can accept Amex.
U can report it to the terminal bank and it will give them some trouble.

Common prob. U can call Maybank they will give u back the cb

But for future reference, i would recommend not doing it at those hours. While forummers reported can complaint to MBB, I still avoid saturday 12am. I will usually do it saturday 8am kind of timing instead. Just less stress that way. Especially overseas website.

Bought a shirt yesterday. Wanted to pay AMEX however cashier said AMEX not accepted due to change of system. Didnt ask whenever AMEX permanently or temporarily not accepted

USJ21 @ 4/6/23 - AmEx accepted. Bought total of RM70.

i just tried, no AMEX logo now.. unable to add amex card 

Fun fact. Today I went to Mid Valley and had an interesting conversation with one of the staff manning the cashier. Here's what he said
"For the moment we are not accepting AmEx because we are in the midst of changing the terminal. No matter this one (pointing towards the sole MBB terminal @ the counter) or the self checkout, all cannot use AmEx for the time being."

Me: "Oh, so it's temporary only? Not permanent not accepting amex anymore?"

Staff: "Yeap. Temporary only."
Seems like temporary for months + already.
