Guardian Queensbay Mall doesn't accept AMEX. Their terminal is CIMB.

I am referring to low-end eating places & restaurants (less than RM 15 per person).

Ever since 1 July 2015, the interchange fee for credit cards is capped at 1.10 %. It does not matter whether the customers use Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit cards, and the merchants should pay similar fee to the cardholder’s bank.

Then again, the management of these low-end eating places & restaurants are still being oblivious of the lower interchange fee, and are still refuse to accept American Express credit cards as a payment method.

As a result of The Payment Card Reform Framework by Bank Negara, the price remains the same, but the customers are at the losing side, by getting lesser cashback. And yet, the merchant acceptance of American Express credit cards does not increase much. 

Maybe, we should inform these merchants about the lower interchange fee, by giving them the official information from Bank Negara. Hopefully, more merchants will start to accept American Express credit cards. 

At least, our sacrifice of getting less cashback will not be in vain.
