No longer true, in fact Amex's merchant fee is now less than Visa's and Mastercard's. But the merchant fee will be further reduced before 1/1/2021 (the due date for Payment Card Reform Framework initialed by Bank Negara, so the reward/rebate scheme from CC will be revised again soon).

Amex Malaysia already ceased operation in Malaysia and granted the exclusive rights to Maybank in early 2000s. Any bank want to offer Amex services (issuance of card, merchant service) must co-operate with Maybank. So other acquiring banks are not keen in Amex unless the merchants insist. If a merchants want to switch away from Maybank (as acquiring bank), most likely they will give up accepting Amex as the percentage of Amex transactions is too small.

Some merchants are now switching to the acquiring banks (especially HLB, PBB, Ambank etc) which support UnionPay and ewallets. Unionpay's customer base is very much bigger than Amex.

How to use Amex to pay Lazada and Shopee?

Some people just want to meet annual spending, not considering the reward/rebate.

Merchants decide if they want to sign up to accept Amex / Unionpay / JCB.
Both Lazada and Shopee accept Visa and MasterCard only.

Last time Lazada also showed Amex logo but couldn't proceed with the Amex card number.

E-wallet credit seller will have good business now.

I am more worried M2 Amex's CB % will be reduced.

I failed as well, so gave up.
But I found another channel, -10% discount (capped at RM50x3) at Razerpay App, so better than 5% weekend cashback from M2 Amex. Thanks God.

I had been using this wallet since last year, so far so good. Got a lot of discounts, much better than chasing for credit card cashback.

I failed as well so I give up at this moment. Anyway you can't use Shopee vouchers on bill payments. So the max savings is only 5%.

You have better alternatives to pay Sarawak Energy.
I paid RM1500 to Sarawak Energy last week using Razerpay with 10% discount (-RM150, max).
I paid RM300 to Sarawak Energy this week using Razerpay with 12% discount (-RM36, max).
I will pay RM20 to Sarawak Energy using Lazada Wallet with 25% cashback (RM5, max) on 12/12.
I will pay RM40 to Sarawak Energy using Razerpay on 16/12 with 20% discount (-RM8, max), hopefully.
I am paying RM10 (max 1 transaction per day) to Sarawak Energy using SarawakPay and getting RM0.60 cashback from SarawakPay. You won't get 6% cashback if the payment is >RM10.

You made a mistake.
Normally the "seller" will charge extra to cover 2% commission to Shopee.
If you have a lot of Shopee coins, you can pay 75% using credit card + 25% by Shopee coins (capped at 3000 coins per 24 hours), provided the seller has been upgraded to Shopee Mall or Preferred Sellers status.

Just curious, what are the bills you want to pay?
There are a lot of channels/ewallets can give you >5% savings, even without a credit card!

10x for Contactless only, must make sure the card machine is ready for contactless transactions.
