I wouldn't get any bag that screams "CAMERA BAG" especially in Malaysia where there's quite a bit of theft/assault/muggling.

So in the end I got a simple sling bag and use pouches to stow my lenses and the camera goes into the a small camera pouch. You can easily DIY as well by using sweater or t shirts as cushion if you don't have pouches.

The last thing you would want is bad people targeting your bag.

Then for tripod, i use this brand : http://www.velbon.co.uk/ut_series.html

mine was this one : http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/8862...n_Aluminum.html
Bought it from sashinki but i think now no stock d.
That time i bought around rm400++ but the model you found is ok too, just that it's not ball head. what i like about this brand is you can really fold up and fit into your backpack. I'm a girl ler and this is not heavy for me.

or you can consider this one : http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...products_id=891

5.1 feet is the max height with the centre column extended? If so, it's kinda short for a tripod especially in landscapes/architecture where sometimes the added height can really give you a substantial difference in perspective.

My Sirui R-1004 tripod extends up to around 1.75m which is about the same height as me. Really useful in some situations brows.gif Of course, it comes with a heavier weight at 1.5kg but it isn't too bad since mine is not Carbon Fiber smile.gif

To me it's good enough. And yeah, every person has their own way to photoshoot landscapes in certain heights and different angles. I can achieve different perspective even with this height so I guess skill is important too. I don't need a tripod taller than me. So it's up to each individual to get a tripod according to their budget and requirements.

I use the Beike PRO 999 and does the job well.. It cope with 2kg 400mm lens with no issues.Weigh wise is fair game.. For the biggie task I will just lug my 15 kg tripod and there will be quivers from weigh whinnies.. The one on display is Q999 which is similar to my 222. I will say the Pro 475 will be close..

there are compromise you have to make.. other issue which will harp on is ease of cleaning fine silt and sand off the system.. a pain if you like sea side photo.. the 999 is total strip down ability.

One last personal opinion.. dont go too cheap like the 222 i had that too and is sitting in the bottom drawer looking for a new owner..

Bag wise.. yes keep it brandless and that is good and prudent advice. Use padded bags that can fit your shopping bag or rug sack.. I do that and it fit into my ice cooler box too!! Unless you want to show and tell then different story..

oh yah, lucky u mention about the carbon fiber thing, i totally forgot bout that. Yeah, i chose CF cos I was going to Japan for winter and CF doesn't conduct the heat away the hands as quickly as aluminium. Now i remember why I bought that tripod biggrin.gif

I think OC4/3 already mentioned to head to YL Camera at Jaya 33 or Pudu Plaza. Lots of choices there.

I see that a lot of questions regarding tripod legs but no mention about ballheads which is equally as important. A tripod is as good as it's weakest link and both ballhead and tripod legs needs to be up to mark.

I'll cut and paste a post I made a while back in the Nikon thread when I got my Sirui K-30X ballhead and Sirui M-3204 carbon fibre tripod. You may not choose the same ballhead / tripod combination but perhaps the thought process below can serve as a guide for you in your selection of tripod and what considerations that you may want to compromise and which ones you want as priority;

QUOTE
Anyway, I just recently got my tripod / ballhead and before that went through a selection process looking for one without bursting the budget. Looking at the recommended tripod on those links above, it's not enough for me. I wanted one that was tall, strong, sturdy and relatively compact / lightweight at the same time.

The specs from the above link looks compact and light but I needed one that had to be sturdy.

As a comparison, the tripod I got has the following specs below and my remarks on what specs I saw as important and why I selected it;

Number of leg segments 4 (3 sections would be best for stability but usually 3 means not so compact when folded)
Top pipe Ø 32 mm (Bigger diameter the better / more sturdy at the expense of weight)
Max. Height 177 cm (Taller means easier to work with for taller people)
Max. Height excl. centre column 148 cm (I usually place more importance on this figure because for me, camera bodies on extended centre column is not recommended due to stability)
Min. Height 15.5 cm (I personally don't place too much importance on this unless you do lots of macro, you may want a lower figure)
Packing dimension 51 cm (Smaller it is, the better but there is a length you need to compromise (depending on your luggage space) as I need the tripod to be tall)
Weight 1.7 kg (lighter it is, the better but like folded dimensions, the weight you need to compromise when you place importance on sturdiness)
Max. Load 18 kg (this is very subjective and take the given figures from the manufacturer with a pinch of salt)

TS, tumpang thread please.

Currently I am looking for a compact camera bag for travel purpose only (which can also carry tripod - Sirui N1204). So far I have short-listed 2 bags, Kata 3N122 DL and Lowepro Transit Sling 250 AW.
Both bags very similar, but which one is better?
