Hi all,

I am using Digi BIS for my old BB device (Bold 9700), I used prepaid card with 25RM per month unlimited subscription. Few weeeks ago somehow my BB connection is gone. I use all sorts of ways using 116 to cancel and resubscribe, but somehow it did not work.

I called Digi customer service and they said that Blackberry now is having technical problems for few months already, so there is no Blackberry Internet Service available. I asked "Does it mean that all other provider like MAxis, Celcom will not have BIS as well.?" The lady on the phone said "Yes, because it is Blackberry who is having problems, not the provider". I hardly believe that since if that is really true people will talk alot about it on internet, and I could not find anything on that. I just called Maxis and the customer service does not have any idea on that.

Could anyone here let me know whether this is true?

It's simply not true. My bold with BIS under Maxis is alive and kicking. This makes me wonder all the telcos are trying to get rid of BIS devices but they just couldn't, unless they throw in some attrative package for the legacy bb users, because you have no ideas how many out there still getting hold of their old bb.

BlackBerry has no problems. If they have outtages, they have to announce it. You have to understand that BIS itself is the "secure highway", and the telcos are only at best the "bus stations".


So if the "highway" is broken, NOT ONLY the bus won't go through, the entire station goes down.


You can tell DiGi to "FUCK OFF". They're anti BlackBerry, but their own systems RIDE ON BlackBerry (ironic isn't it) for the emails and whatnot, because they themselves abuse the data connection on BIS to get the smaller packets arrive on time.

I also have Android phone but still using my 9700.. When I inserted my Celcom sim, there is no option for BIS.. Maxis Hotlink still have, I think.. Digi doesn't have.. Think of get rid of Digi and finding a Hotlink sim for my 9700..

Maybe 9700 is too old for Telcos to handle..

No, it has NOTHING to do with the phone.

Its more about the infrastructure. BlackBerry realized this ages ago, that's why they released BlackBerry 10 devices, which doesn't use the BIS in the way legacy BlackBerry (4.x to 7.x) do.

To say that BlackBerry 10 devices are free from BIS is false, but it does connect to BIS server. You can take your data plan that has BIS, plug it into any normal smartphone, and it'll work just as fine.

Digi themselves are a joke. People abuse their infrastructure to abuse their BIS links, because of the old Celcom Ghost tricks.

In the end, let me ask a question.


If you got "kutu" selling "lubang tickets" at the bus station, do you blame the bus terminal (DiGi) , or do you blame the highway operator? (BlackBerry)

The answer is simple, yet DiGi still spew lies saying the problem is with BlackBerry, which is a joke.

I'm on DiGi and running on OS7.1 in a Bold 9790... No issues so far this few days...
