as titled. enjoy street photography and i am currently a pancake 40mm user.. but in future i want to buy a zoom range , say 15-40mm range +/- for street photography and general usage too..

am leaning towards sigma art series 18-35mm but the weight is freaking heavy at 840g ! what other option do you recommend me ? my budget is around rm 3K more or less.. is canon L series 17-40mm F4 ideal?

how about
Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD?
Its good and some review says it is equivalent to the canon L series with similar zoom range.

I have one and recommend it. If you go for the F4, ready for flash for low-light.

I got the 24-70mm F4L IS Macro Picture turns out to be very nice

i mount it on Full Frame, and 70mm = eye focal length

Too bad, 6D is a bit lousy on hunting, so takes time to focus

I got friend who bought F2.8 24-70mm he sold it off cause no IS very hard to get clear images, especially he doing wedding shots

For APSC camera the Canon 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM has the best focal coverage and awesome AF! Adaptable to any situation, except non flash low light. This is my main lens for my 650D. If you really need a F2.8 lens then the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 OS HSM shall do you good.

And the 24-105mm F4 IS USM is my main lens for the Full Frame 6D.

17-40mm F4 lens is only great on a Full Frame camera. Its designed for FF. Putting it on APSC you'll lack its benefits as its really design to be UWA for FF and 17mm on APSC is not really UWA. For APSC I feel you'll be better of with the lenses as mentioned above.

You can't go wrong with a good zoom lens. Its a needed workhorse lens.

Yea i couldn't agree more...
Previously i used my bro 7D 15-85 3.5-5.6, the AF and hunting speed is stunning quick.
I bring it to oversea. and it is so versitile!
But due to APSC camera, some of it doesnt perform well in low light, with floating Aperture some more, it might get kinda a bit annoying when taking low light shots, especially Indoor museum, restaurant, under the bridge etc.
