Lowyat.net Forum Nintendo Switch Official Discussion Thread
(no fancy banners created because I'm really busy lately, probably future rework or v2 thread)

Introduction
Nintendo Switch is basically the latest hardware device from Nintendo, supposedly to be the third pillar alongside with 3DS and Wii U, but we all know it meant to replace both. Why? Because it's a hybrid device at its core.

General Information

Hardware SKU
There's 2 SKUs on launch, Grey & Neon. Other than the colours of the Joy-cons, there's no different between the two sets

Launch Price
-29,980+tax円
-US$299.99+tax
-CAD$399.99+tax
-£279.99
-AU$469.95
-HK$2,340
As for our region, we got a forced bundle (which includes The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & 1-2 Switch) from our lovely distributor, Maxsoft that's priced from RM1,999 to RM2,399 depending on your preferable local store.

Stuff included in box
-Switch Console
-Switch Dock
-Joy‑Con (L)
-Joy‑Con ®
-Joy‑Con Wrist Straps
-Joy‑Con Grip
-High Speed HDMI Cable
-Switch AC Adapter (100-240V 50/60Hz)

Switch and Play
As it's a hybrid device, there's 3 main gameplay mode:
- TV mode
By putting the main switch unit on the dock and detaching the Joy-con, you can play it like any normal home console system
- Handheld mode
Featuring 6.2 inch IPS screen, you can easily play it without connecting to tv
- Table-top mode
Thanks to detachable Joy-con controller and a kickstand, you can just play it without restrained by tv or being stucked holding the console like a handheld. Just put the switch on some table and play it like a normal console

Joy-Con
- An evolution of Wiimote
- Features traditional input button like analog sticks, shoulder buttons, face buttons, directional buttons
- Each joy-con can be used as single controller, where you can SHARE THE JOY with someone else in order to play local co-op games
- Left joy-con features capture button that can capture compressed, lossy JPEG screenshot that can be shared to the social media. In future updates, you can record the gameplay
- Right joy-con have an IR Motion Camera, which is useful when playing jankenpon as it can detects the shape of your fist, whether you do rock, paper or scissor
- There's NFC reader directly above the analog stick on right joy-con, where it's used for the overpriced amiibo. Yeah, you need to tap amiibo on top of the analog stick
- Both joy-con features gyroscope, accelerometer and also HD Rumble. HD Rumble is so high-def to the point where people can related the vibration to an empty glass getting filled with ice cubes

Accessories
Too many, too expensive to list. Will be in next revision

Launch title
*Developing*

Region Free
Yup! Nintendo Switch is region free unlike 3DS or Wii U. You can freely play any switch game that you purchase. Buying digital games from different region eShop also much easier

Base on the image when Iwata was talking, it looks like probably something new that won't disturb the 3DS or Wii U.
*
yep. from how Iwata said during the conference, NX sounds like it will be the third pillar of Nintendo dedicated hardware. but at the same time, we cannot rule out the possibility of it replacing any previous hardware line. For example, DS line was planned as the third pillar, but the general reception towards it cause DS to straight away "kill" Game Boy line

hmm... anyone wanna go TGS next year

Nintendo haven't gone to TGS for years

worse case u will be getting the console with menu in Jap lang, but still able to play other region games. icon_idea.gif

and stuck with playing in Japanese even if you buy English region games, like botw. not that I care much since I rarely plays in English lately, but some ppl that import from japan (just to get cheaper console) might be pissed off if this is the case lol

anyway, from recent july devkit document leak it is known that the input language is independent of system language, so at least keyboard isn't locked. too bad it doesn't goes on detail at the language option in system settings

"I live in Japan, and I called a local shop to reserve a switch and they told me this

"The system is in Japanese. but, if you buy an overseas game with an English language, you can play it in English"

This is the opposite of what Aonuma has said.

Now I dont know whether to get a system here in Japan or not >.<"

oh right silly me for not stating the correct case situation.
my guess it'll be per game basis; game that is Multilanguage but no language select in option (like botw which I was referring to but forgot to mention) = affected by system language while game with single language or with language select = not affected by system language

a grim reminder once again, as much as you hate maxshit for forcing the bundles, don't be tempted grabbing the obvious overprice, marked up from play-asia

oh. japan tax is 8%, and if it can directly shipped outside japan w/o relying on proxy/forwarder it won't be counted

Weird, I'm checking through my Amazon.jp invoices and I can't seem to find any addition of the 8% consumption tax. http://www.eubusinessinjapan.eu/issues/fin...nsumption-taxes

Either through direct shipping from Amazon.jp or via proxy through Tenso.

Here is a transaction I've made via the Tenso proxy and the Amazon Invoice.

[attachmentid=8490146][attachmentid=8490151]

unlike other region amazon, it does not display local tax breakdown in the invoice
the price shown in item page already reflect the 8% consumption tax, and the price will remain if you select japan shipping address. if that item is global shippable and you choose non-japanese address, it will automatically update the price to remove that 8% tax
user posted image
compare with
user posted image
1st one is the price displayed on item page with 8% tax, while 2nd one is from my order page, without the tax since it'll be shipped directly to Malaysia

btw their tax is bound to be 10% later in the future, originally it should be implemented already, but since abenomics is a failure, they delayed it lol

screen is 6.2"
if you don't mind covering the bezel part, just grab those screen protectors at that size. not sure what's the diagonal size when including that large bezel

Is it just me, or it does really look like Android when the menu asks you "back / sleep".

like that Android Kit Kat.

And pity the shop. Will be forever banned by Nintendo.

But the OS... is.. tasty.

25.9GB usable space. Hmmm...
*
tbh I expected less.
29.8GB-25.9GB=3.9GB reserved for OS, which is less than wii u

yes maxshit is wholly-owned subsidiary company, but that doesn't mean shit tbh. the negative stigma associated with that company, plus lack of bigger recognition makes the sentiment of wanting some sort of official Nintendo of SEA or whatever it is understandable.
even if somehow the director decided to rename maxshit into that, it will be much better in name/brand recognition (although it will be much better to totally replace the upper management lol)

edit: also, maxshit being a wholly-owned subsidiary also doesn't mean there can't be Nintendo of SEA at all at the same time. they can just establish it outside Singapore for example whistling.gif

You mean the died MMsoft? LOL

TBH you guys said you are not happy with the price yet you guys just like "Ok lo what to do? Maxsoft ma nobody can bring in liao". Seriously show them some consumer rights la. Apa susah?
*
derp.. I totally forgot about that lmao. it even took me quite a while to recall that name
eh btw do you really start importing stuff again?
QUOTE(angelaers @ Feb 17 2017, 11:10 PM)
Personal opinion, Maxsoft works great for them. It allows them to have a legitimate presence in SEA but at the same time it allows them to distance themselves as well from any shitty practices done by Maxsoft.

I mean, there has got to be a reason why they would rather use Maxsoft than have a direct presence. Then again, I'm not a business a major so I'm not going to pretend like I know this shit.

All I know is that I'm a consumer and what Maxsoft is doing is very anti-consumer. Going to go read some Malaysian Consumer law and see what I can do about it smile.gif #nolife
*
can our consumer law actually helpful since they're Singapore company (and they don't really have office here?)

Quad core vs Octacore. Now we understand why they run on mmc/cartridge instead of disc media. Hope it doesnt overheat.
*
not really related with processor spec. disc-based media is just too slow. look at ps4/xbone, even physical games need to be fully installed on hdd since bd drive read speed is slow. plus, less space consumed on the unit
