Marhalim just edited his article it's about Saudi asked Malaysia to join in operation in Yemen.

http://www.malaysiandefence.com/?p=6265#comment-234294

Some of the key points from the article:

It is my believe that Malaysia had agreed to send our troops to Yemen but with one big caveat, only after hostilities had ended and a peacekeeping mission – funded by Saudi or UN – are approved.

Is that why both of the Nuri that are handed over to PUTD is in desert camo? hmm.gif

no news yet mean choices are still open.

But there already indication or giveaway what type of heli is being sought after
The new gowind deck been extended as well as its hanger. Meaning, the navy is looking for a bigger asw than the current fennec/lynx whistling.gif

Malaysia plans to upgrade four Kedah-class corvettes for ASW role

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) plans to upgrade four of its Kedah (Meko 100 RMN)-class corvettes for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations, an RMN official has confirmed.

Oh.. been hearing the same for quite some time now. Most likely will follow the same configuration as our gowind class.

Probably the remaing two will remain as patrol vessel with anti-ship missile
*
The article got updated with the following:

To achieve the ASW upgrade, the RMN is proposing to equip the four vessels with torpedo launchers, towed array and hull-mounted sonars, and equipment to support the operation of an ASW helicopter, the official told the annual OPVs & Corvettes Asia Pacific conference in Singapore.

The other two vessels-in-class will be upgraded for anti-surface warfare (ASuW) operations. The RMN has said that it plans to equip the ships with an organic helicopter and surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.

new article on malaysian defence..below are few important points from the article

-At the same time, the staff officer also revealed the service procurement plans, three MRSS, four light frigates, six ASW helicopters, a single hydro-graphic ship and six gun-armed FACs.
-for the procurement plans, I believed the ASW helicopters and hydrographic ship are a shoe-in for RMK11 while the light frigates looked unreachable unless they turned it into another order for the LCS.
-What about the MRSS and FACs then? I believe it will be funded not due to RMN’s requirements but mainly for political reasons.

wonder how much would actually be funded under RMK 11..and what happen to the DSME corvettes? hmm.gif

could it be combo of Dokdo class LPH and Gumdoksuri class patrol vessel? hmm.gif
both were build by the same Hanjin Heavy Industries, both price tag should be more cheaper than those european.
and some more the Gumdoksuri class patrol vessel more fit the bill of a FAC,right? hmm.gif
do u guys think the rumors 6 DSME missile corvettes might be replace by this 6 FAC or the plan has been delay? hmm.gif
*
but malaysian defence say both are for political reason so i assume is from china? hmm.gif

QUOTE(thpace @ Apr 25 2015, 11:18 PM)

the understanding of political reason could only be two countries on the list

France/china

France is everywhere from the navy to the airforce sweat.gif

China is well, pretty much we just want to have good relationship with them (show of courtesy) but as far as i know top military brass have always been caution of each other intentions and actions. Even buying a china ships would raise eyebrows
*
if that is the case..it can be the MRSS is from France and the FAC is from china as previously we were suppose to get some light corvettes from China but the deal didn't go through? blink.gif

I still believe the mrss would still be from china

The deal suggested to be c28a corvette at first, then the navy intervened and suggested to get mrss from them instead of the corvette
*
Hmm..then where could be the FAC from? hmm.gif

No idea.. and since it only have guns/cannon prolly even local shipbuilder can supply it  hmm.gif

I wouldn't mind if it is from a local shipbuilder but Malaysian defense specifically stated that the FAC procurement were because of political reason if the funding were to go through.. hmm.gif

If all were to be true by all the rumors, TLDM gonna have quite a number of ships added to their fleet.

- 6 SGPV
- 6 DSME corvettes
- 3 MRSS
- 6 FAC

using 1/3 assumption where 1/3 is on duty, another 1/3 is on rotation/resupply and the last 1/3 is on maintenance works

basic, we will have 6 vessel but only 2 active at one time while the remaining 4 is at dock either resupply or maintenance works

there still serious lack of hulls if you were to ask me  laugh.gif

that why last time the NGPV ambitious 27 vessels
*
yeap..totally agree that we are still lacking of hulls..so any additional ships that we can get now is a good addition to the fleet.. icon_rolleyes.gif
